Pokemon is adding crafting in Scarlet & Violet for the first time. Today’s "Jump into a Paldean Journey" video confirmed trainers will receive crafting materials from Pokemon that can be used to create TMs at the Pokemon Center.

The TM Machine is a new kiosk at Paldea’s Pokemon Centers which will allow trainers to convert materials into TMs. Materials are gained after Pokemon battles with specific Pokemon providing specific materials. Those can include things like Shinx Fang, Starly Feather, Fletchling Feather, Snom Thread, and Snover Berries. Trainers receive materials after defeating or capturing Pokemon.

The material requirements for TMs seem to be associated with the Pokemon where the material comes from. For example, Thunder Fang will require Shinx Fangs, an Electric-type Pokemon which provides material for an Electric-type move. Other TMs shown include Ice Fang, Fire Fang, Struggle Bug, Aerial Ace, and Icy Wind.

The TM Machine will reveal which TMs are craftable based on the player’s inventory. Uncraftable TMs will have a “???” next to the material requirements, indicating a material that has yet to be discovered or perhaps a recipe that has to be unlocked. All TMs require “League Points,” which as far as we know so far, can be acquired by selling materials. It’s possible League Points could also be gained from Gym battles or battles against other trainers.

Although TMs weren't too hard to come by in the previous generations, some could be locked behind progression or significant Pokemon Dollars. This new crafting system should make it simpler for trainers to find the TMs they need, so long as they don't have to find a recipe for each TM first.

Elsewhere in today's trailer, we saw Girafarig evolve into Farigiraf, and we got to see Scarlet & Violet's new autobattling feature function alongside the EXP Share, which is confirmed to be returning to the latest generation.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet arrive on the Nintendo Switch on November 18.
