Scyther is one of the most famous Bug-type Pokemon that have been introduced into the franchise, and it still remains popular even with all of the Pokemon in generation 8. Over the years, Scyther has been changed and updated from its original design, and it has even gained an evolution in the form of Scizor.

Although Scyther is beloved among the Pokemon fan base, there are many things about this Pokemon that are rarely discussed in anime and video games.  Scyther is a fascinating bug, and between its history and biology, there is a ton to learn about it.

10 Scyther Is A Darker Green Color When It's Shiny

Some Pokemon change drastically in their shiny form; however, Scyther isn't one of these creatures. Scyther's shiny form isn't quite as grand as some of the more colorful Pokemon in existence; however, there is still a notable change that takes place.

When a shiny Scyther is encountered, it is a dark green color instead of its regular light green color scheme. Trainers that prefer Pokemon with darker colors may want to catch a shiny Scyther for their party.

9 Scyther Is Part Of The Bug Egg Group

Scyther is both a Bug-type and a Flying-type Pokemon, so it is good to know which type of egg group it belongs to since there are a few different groups that this Pokemon could logically belong to.

Scyther can breed with other Pokemon of the Bug egg group, solidifying that Scyther is a Bug-type before a powerful Flying-type. Scyther is one of the strongest Bug-types in generation 1, so it makes sense that it would have this egg group.

8 Scyther Turns Hostile When It Sees The Color Red

Tracy's Scyther uses Swords Dance and strikes a pose in the Pokémon anime

When Scyther sees the color red in front of it, it immediately becomes angry and turns hostile on nearby Pokemon and people. It is unknown exactly why Scyther has this reaction; however, this is one of the reasons why Scyther is so deadly in the presence of other living creatures.

If simply seeing the color red angers Scyther to such an extent, then perhaps trainers should leave it alone instead of trying to provoke and catch it.

7 Scyther Evolves Into Scizor When Traded While Holding A Metal Coat

There are many different methods of evolution in the Pokemon franchise; however, one of the most interesting ways that Pokemon are able to evolve is by being traded, and occasionally a Pokemon will also require a certain item to be traded along with it for its evolution to take place.

Scyther is one of these Pokemon because to evolve into Scizor, it requires a metal coat. Scizor is one of the most powerful Bug-type Pokemon that has been introduced into the franchise to date, so finding a metal coat should be on every Scyther trainer's agenda.

6 Scyther Sharpens Its Arms By Cutting Through Hard Objects

Scyther has sharp claws, and to keep them sharp for every new battle, it will regularly cut through hard objects for practice, which effectively sharpens its blades. Scyther uses its blades to perform many different types of attacks and also for hunting in the wild.

It is unknown exactly how sharp a Scyther's blades can become however it is likely that they are able to become much sharper than how they are at a Scyther's birth. Trainers that want to improve a Scyther's combat abilities should consider giving it hard objects to cut through for practice.

5 Scyther Is The Only Pokemon To Have The Same Base Stat Total As It's Evolution - 500

Few Pokemon have the exact same base stat total as their evolutions, which is because a Pokemon's evolution is supposed to be more powerful than its original form since it is being improved upon.

However, Scyther is a rare exception in this regard as Scyther and Scizor both have a base stat total of 500. Although the base stat total is the same, the stats themselves are not shared between Scyther and Scizor.

4 Scyther's Green Color Is Used To Blend In With The Grass

One of the reasons that Scyther is green is because it is a master of hunting, and it needs to blend in with the grass and other plants to hunt down its prey.

Scyther perfectly blends in with most types of grass and leaves, which makes for a deadly combination between its stealth and sharp blades. Since Scyther is rarely found in locations without plants and is usually found in Kanto, this fact makes Scyther one of the deadliest grasslands hunters in the Kanto region.

3 Scyther Live On Swarms In The Wild

Some species of Pokemon live alone, and some live in groups; Scyther falls into the latter of these classifications. Scythers are most commonly found traveling in swarms when encountered in the wild.

Although Scyther is capable of defending itself without allies, this species of Pokemon has evolved to stick together since very few Pokemon are able to defeat multiple Scyther single-handedly.

2 Scyther Is The Counterpart To Pinsir

Most Pokemon have a counterpart of some kind which is only featured in one of the two video games; for example, one Pokemon may be found in HeartGold while the other is found in SoulSilver.

Scyther was created as the counterpart to Pinsir, which is another Bug-type Pokemon that resides in different locations in the Kanto region. However, Scyther is arguably a better choice for a Bug-type Pokemon at this point in the franchise since its evolution Scizor has been introduced while Pinsir has still not received an evolution.

1 Scyther Resides In Forests And Grasslands

Scyther is known to mostly live around forested areas and meadows. These areas present many opportunities for Scyther to hunt different types of prey. They also give Scyther all of the camouflage that it needs to blend in with the environment.

Since Scyther is one of the rarest and strongest generation 1 Pokemon, it is logical to assume that it would make its home in a unique terrain such as the mountains or on small islands; however, Scyther is incredibly rare outside of grasslands and forests.
