Pokemon is eternal. Its trading card game, the aptly titled Pokemon TCG, remains just as vibrant as its video games. Expansions come and go, basking in the limelight before fading - but never being forgotten.

Yet in Shining Fates' case, many cards have gone down in value - meaning now's the time for collectors to grab and go!

Updated on April 10, 2023 by Quinton O'Connor: With the Scarlet & Violet era in full swing, we're checking back on the Pokemon TCG's Galarian predecessor, making note of any upticks and downticks in card costliness in the years following these terrific V-packed expansions.

14 Shiny Ditto V ($3)

Pokemon Shining Fates ditto v

Ditto may not be a dynamite Pokemon battler, but the Normal-type Pokemon is invaluable to trainers as it's an ace when it comes to breeding. In Shining Fates there are two different shiny Ditto cards, with the uglier of the two being of higher value.

Ditto V may only come in at $3 in terms of average value, but the aesthetic of the card show off how cute the shiny form of Ditto is. It isn't stretched out in the same way that Ditto VMAX is, which distorts Ditto in ways it shouldn't have to be distorted.

13 Shiny Lapras VMAX ($3.30)

Pokemon Shining Fates lapras

Lapras has had an interesting existence as a Kanto native Pokemon. When the games originally came out in the '90s it wasn't one of the more popular creatures, but in the decades since it has built a solid cult following. The majestic Water and Ice-type sea creature has won the hearts of many fans over the years.

In Shining Fates it has a card featuring its VMAX form which turns it into a living cruise ship. The card in question is called Lapras VMAX and will set back potential buyers about $3.30 on average.

12 Drizzile ($4.60)

Rarely does the middle form of a three-stage evolution Pokemon have a card that's worth more than the final form. Drizzile, the middle form of Sobble from Pokemon Sword & Shield, happens to be just the case in the Shining Fates set in the Pokemon Trading Card Game.

The card is currently selling for around $4.60, but it topped out at nearly $20 back when the Inteleon Engine was all the rage as a meta strategy.

11 Shiny Eternatus V ($4.60)

eternatus v

Eternatus V goes for around $4.60 currently, which is actually a pretty steep decline from the $12 it was valued at a while back.

Aesthetically the entire card is made up of mostly yellow and black with hints of white and silver. The holographic nature of the card allows the golden hues to pop off of the card and makes it rather desirable.

10 Shiny Inteleon ($5.25)

Pokemon Shining Fates inteleon

Despite Sobble being the Water-type starter Pokemon fans fell in love with, its final form named Inteleon serves only specific interests. Its design is a bit weird and there's a running joke that its equal parts titular character Rango and Randall from Monsters Inc. in appearance.

The shiny form of Inteleon is quite dazzling and adds a bit of pink flair to the misunderstood Pokemon. A foil version of this card in Shining Fates is currently listed at around $5.25, which is the current going rate for a pack of Shining Fates.

9 Shiny Grimmsnarl VMAX ($5.50)

Pokemon Shining Fates grimmsnarl

A fan favorite of the Galar region, Grimmsnarl quickly accumulated a fan base due to being a cool-looking yeti. It was introduced in Pokemon Sword & Shield and years later it's still finding ways to make itself appear cooler than ever before.

The shiny Grimmsnarl VMAX card in Shining Fates displays the neat variant form of the yeti in which it now resembles the Indomitable Snowman. At a value of $5.50, the card holds some weight in the collector's community but is affordable enough to snag for fans who want the gorgeous full art card.

8 Shiny Ditto VMAX ($5.50)

The shiny Ditto V mentioned earlier in the list isn't the only Ditto card making the list of most valuable cards in the Shining Fates set. As most VMAX cards do, Ditto VMAX has the now blue science experiment gone wrong taking up most of the full art real estate on the card.

Generally speaking, interested collectors can get the card for around $5.50 which isn't too pricey for those who enjoy collecting. That being said, in terms of aesthetic, most people prefer the Ditto V card over the Ditto VMAX if value isn't a factor.

6 Shiny Galarian Rapidash ($5.50)

Pokemon Shining Fates galarian rapidash

Next up on the list is the living Pokemon equivalent to the ever-popular My Little Pony series. Galarian Rapidash took the ferocious and stoic nature of its Kanto counterpart and added in a mystical and magical flair, with a hint of cotton candy. Its shiny form features pastel greens and yellows which are on full display with its Shining Fates card.

Rapidash lovers, you've joined the $5.50 club - for now, at least.

5 Skyla ($8.40)

Pokemon fans who love the series from a nostalgic perspective may not know who Skyla is. She's the charismatic Flying-type Gym Leader from Mistralton City, featured in both Pokemon Black & White and Black & White 2.

In Shining Fates she received a full art trainer card displaying some amazing art of the high-flying trainer making it one of the series' best cards. When looking at the Shining Fates card list price it can currently be snagged for around $8.40 but can be found in slightly played condition for closer to $5.

4 Shiny Eternatus VMAX ($15)

Pokemon Shining Fates eternatus vmax

Eternatus VMAX is a rather interesting card since it's valued at around $15, but the card art itself is lackluster at best. The mixture of black and yellow is a color combination that always works, but unlike the shiny Eternatus V card, this seems to be one of the more frustrating cards in Shining Fates overall.

Eternatus is a legendary Poison and Dragon-type whose VMAX form is hard enough to comprehend, that when it's zoomed in on and put under a filter of two colors it makes the overall card feel like a blender of shapes.

2 Shiny Suicune ($11)

Pokemon Shining Fates suicine

Legendary Pokemon are a part of the franchise that helps build inherent value in the property. These creatures tend to be mystical or ancient and possess some incredible power. Suicune is one of the three legendary dogs belonging to the Johto region featured in Pokemon Silver & Gold.

Its shiny card, which can be found in the Shining Fates set, has a current value of around $11 or so. The shiny form of Suicune makes the majestic beast entirely blue as its mane is no longer a rich violet purple color and is instead a powdery blue.

1 Shiny Charizard VMAX ($105)

Pokemon Shining Fates charizard

It should come as no surprise that the most expensive and sought-after card in the Pokemon Shining Fates expansion set is a Charizard card. More specifically the card that people are searching for in the newest set is the Charizard VMAX card which features a shiny Charizard in all of its black-scaled beauty. Currently, the card is going for around $181 and up, depending on the quality and centering of the card.

Charizard is often the reason why many of the sets skyrocket in price, as collectors try their best to get their hands on the beloved Fire-type Pokemon starter.
