Pokemon Smile, the app designed to encourage kids to brush their teeth, just got its very first update.

The first thing that springs to mind for most people when you mention Pokemon games is the main series. The games that kicked off most people's love of Pokemon, no matter where you hopped aboard. Anywhere between Red and Blue during the late '90s to today's Sword and Shield. The Pokemon game universe is a whole lot more than just the main series, though.

Pokemon Snap, Pokemon Unite, and Pokemon Stadium are just a few of the other Pokemon games to have been released during the franchise's 25 years. Not to mention the biggest money-spinner of all, Pokemon Go. One that may have slipped your mind is Pokemon Smile. An app that launched in 2020 which is supposed to encourage kids to brush their teeth.

It might be a bit of a stretch to call Smile a game. Children, or adults if you need some encouragement while brushing your teeth, can use the app to see themselves brushing their teeth surrounded by adorable Pokemon. They then get the chance to catch them should they keep up brushing their teeth, and now a new update has added a few more.

Despite launching well over a year ago, this is the first update Smile has received. In fairness, a game that's only job is to help children brush their teeth doesn't need much upkeep. The patch's notes reveal new Pokemon and Pokemon caps have been added. The additional Pokemon you avid brushers will now be able to catch includes Smeargle, Ludicolo, Mime Jr., and Dedenne. There are also a number of bug fixes and the ability to tweak various settings for different users.

Pokemon has been doing so much to celebrate turning 25 that it has been hard to keep up with everything going on in its ever-expanding world. The game corner of it alone has grown a massive amount and the best might be yet to come. Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl launch on Nintendo Switch later this month, and Legends: Arceus is still on track to be here by the end of January 2022.
