The Pokémon world has been around for over 20 years, and throughout the decades, the series has made a lot of moves. Whether they’re infuriating fans or confirming that God tier Maractus will be back in Sword and Shield, they’re always expanding the series. The lore of the series has continually expanded with every new game entry. However, sometimes new plotlines are introduced that aren’t expanded on as well as they could be. Today, we’ll be taking a look at ten of those plotlines that have more to them than we know. Let’s jump into it.

10 The Creation Myth

The lore of the Pokémon world was largely expanded throughout the length of Generation Four. While HeartGold and SoulSilver contributed a good portion of new lore to the series, Diamond, Pearl and Platinum were huge in that area. There is a lot more going on in the lore-heavy area of the creation of the universe than we know. Okay, maybe asking for more information on the beginning of the entire universe is a bit much, but eventual Gen Four remakes will hopefully dive a bit deeper than the original titles did.

9 Some Pokédex Entries

Pokédex entries are a whole bag of messiness. Some are fun or cute, others are sad. Others are truly horrifying. For example, Xatu stands in one place at all times because the things he sees in the future leave him in a constant petrified state.

Okay, relatable. Ninetails is cursing people if you look at it wrong. Shedinja’s entire existence. There are so many Pokédex entries that tell the beginning of a horrifying story that we need more information on.

8 People and Pokémon Were Once One

People and Pokémon were once indistinguishable. Okay, let’s back up for like, five seconds, please. What? There are really only about three throwaway lines in the entire game series that reference it. The two species would intermarry, it was common. What happened? When happened? How happened? Why happened? There is so much information about this topic that we need to know. However, it is very likely that we won’t ever get that information in the future.

7 The Distortion World

The Distortion World is Angry Ghost Forme Giritina’s true home. It was banished here by Arceus, but he seems to have really spruced things up and made it his own. The only time we’ve ever really gotten a glimpse of this world is in Platinum. With the huge shock that this world exists, we need another look at this place. We need to see what else it holds. Let’s hope those remakes that we can’t stop talking about that have never been confirmed come soon and give us the chance to enter the Distortion World again.

6 Extinct Pokémon

While we’ve gotten a look at many Pokémon that were once extinct through fossils, there are still a whole lot that we have yet to see. For example, the ancient Pokémon that Genesect was based on is still completely unknown to us.

Getting a game set in ancient times is something that would never happen in a million years, but it would provide an unprecedented amount of lore and an entirely new type of play.

5 Claydol And Other Inanimate Pokémon

There is an alarming amount of Pokémon that have just sprung out of inanimate objects. Very alarming. The entire premise of this brings up several thousand questions that no one has any amount of time for, but how this process occurs is something that could be explored. We will not be getting into the entire reproductive side of things, but some slice of info on this subject would be very much appreciated.

4 The Mystery of Mimikyu

Okay, this one is a bit of a back and forth. Do we want to know what’s hidden under Mimikyu’s sheet that petrified a man to… well, the end of his life, or do we want to keep the mystery of the subject? It’s a bit of a tossup, for sure. Either way, there is a lot to this Pokémon that we don’t know about. Thinking about it, this might be one of those that is better with a bit of mystery around it. But no one will protest any new information that you want to give us Game Freak.

3 The Kalos War

We have actually received an incredible amount of information on the Kalos War yet we still have no information on the Kalos War at all. Who was it with? Why did it occur? There are about a thousand different theories that every single region was the one engaged with Kalos (Lt. Surge’s comments indicate Kanto). In reality, we know so little about this war (and the entire Kalos region as a matter of fact) that it is truly enraging. This is a topic that we actually NEED more information on.

2 The World/Multiverse

At this point in the series, it has essentially been confirmed that there is a multiverse, one in which the different game pairings have each happened, and where Mega Evolution did and didn’t happen. Say what you want about the bad (oops) Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, but the Delta Episode gave us a great story with some fantastic lore. More of that in Sword and Shield, please.

1 Shadow Pokémon

Shadow Pokémon were introduced and popularized in the spin-offs Pokémon Coliseum and XD: Gale of Darkness. Shadow Pokémon are variants of Pokémon that artificially had their hearts closed, and the object of the game was to capture these Pokémon and help them open up again. This mechanic was interesting from both a gameplay and lore aspect, and bringing them back would be a great move for a future game in the series.
