Pokémon Sun and Moon were amazing additions to the franchise and both the games and the anime had a bunch of mysteries for fans to unravel. Some of these mysteries were never really solved or talked about much within the main series and fans are still wondering what the answer to some of these questions may be.

This list will cover 10 of the best mysteries that still aren't solved in Pokémon Sun and Moon, covering both the anime and the video games. From the Ultra Beasts to the power of the Z-Moves here are 10 mysteries that fans never quite solved in generation 7!

10 Are Ultra Beasts Really Pokémon?

Pokemon Ultra Beasts: Guzzlord opens its mouth wide.

Ultra Beasts were a fascinating new concept in Pokémon Sun and Moon and fans loved that they are a brand new variety of creatures to use in battle. Although these creatures were great lots of fans started to wonder whether or not they were actually Pokémon or actually just monsters from another dimension.

A lot of players wondered why trainers are able to capture these monsters in Beast Balls because it doesn't make a lot of sense in terms of logic within the franchise. Hopefully, this gets a better explanation in the future because as of right now all fans know is that these creatures can be captured as if they were Pokémon and that they're technically classified as a type of Pokémon. However, based on the fact that they come from a different dimension it's evident that they aren't traditional Pokémon by any means.

9 Lycanroc's Forms

This new dog-themed creature from generation 7 quickly became a fan favorite because of how cute it was and the fact that Ash had one in the anime. Although it's cute, lots of fans wonder what the reason that it was able to evolve into three different forms is.

All three forms are themed after different times of the day, so clearly that has something to do with it, but the reason that they can actually evolve into these different creatures doesn't make much sense and was never explained. Perhaps it will be explained through future Pokédex entries, but fans can only wait to see what happens.

8 Why Is Team Rocket In Alola?

In Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, Team Rocket was present as a new organization called Rainbow Rocket. It was a powerful organization that featured lots of evil teams from every generation and fans wondered what it was doing in the Alola Region. It seems that every team in the organization had achieved their goals in alternate dimensions, however, why they would want to come to a world where it didn't happen is a mystery.

There's definitely some speculation as to why they are there and what they wanted to achieve, and although it is hinted at that they want to take over the player's dimension within the games, it is still a somewhat of a mystery, and considering that Giovanni had retired previously it seemed like it was just a nostalgic throwback to the generation 1 games and not meant to make much sense.

7 How Does The Aether Institute Travel To Different Dimensions?

The Aether Foundation can travel to different dimensions, and although the scientists seem to know what's going on with the technology of the place, most fans are completely dumbfounded by how it advanced their technology is.

This is a mystery that should be noted because no fans really understand how traveling to different dimensions within the Pokémon world works and lots of players wished that they had gotten better explanation within either the games or the anime.

6 Why Is Alola So Similar To Hawaii?

Hawaii is an absolute paradise from the sandy beaches to the beautiful volcanoes, and it seems that the generation 7 region was based completely around it. This decision makes sense from a development standpoint, however, it doesn't make much sense in terms of why they are so similar when compared to the real world.

The reason that this is so curious is that it really doesn't make any sense that so many of the traditions and names from the islands of Hawaii made it into the generation 7 region, and it has fans wondering if there's some connection to the real world within the video games.

5 Why Did Trials Completely Replace Gyms?

Trials were a nice change of pace and most players would agree that gyms were getting somewhat boring as the franchise was on its 7th generation and almost 20 years of content.

It's obvious that the Alola region is extremely traditional and they have their own customs, however, there could have been trials alongside gyms, so it's curious that the people of the islands would decide that they didn't want gyms altogether and completely stray away from the rest of the Pokémon world. Perhaps there will be some kind of answer to this question if a remake or sequel ever gets made of the generation 7 games, however fans shouldn't hold their breath.

4 How Do Z-Crystals Create The Power For Z-Moves?

Z-Crystals were another interesting concept introduced in generation 7. They allowed trainers to use a powerful new type of attack called Z-Moves that could easily decimate any opponent especially if the Pokémon opponent was weak to the move's type in question.

However, fans don't really understand how these crystals work and it doesn't make much sense because many fans don't know where the special Z-Power originates from. Hopefully, these crystals will be explained better in the future because right now it just doesn't seem like they have much logic to them besides being from Necrozma.

3 Why Are Ultra Beasts Only Found In Alola?

As covered earlier in this list, Ultra Beasts are a powerful new type of creature in the Alola Region, and there are even more questions about them, such as why they're only found on the islands of generation 7.

As most fans know the Aether Foundation has some technology that can bring these creatures into the Pokémon world, however, it seems that if they were able to get loose, which they have a few times, they would probably be able to travel to other regions because of how powerful they are. It just doesn't make much sense that these powerful creatures wouldn't be able to get to other regions and perhaps adding them so late in the franchise was a bad design choice and created an unsolvable mystery. At least they're cool, though!

2 How Do Sandygast And Pallosand Exist?

This sandcastle Pokémon is quite questionable in terms of design and although there are a lot of other inanimate object Pokémon in the franchise it still is bizarre that this one happens to exist.

The reason that this Pokémon is so much weirder than other inanimate object Pokémon is that it's made entirely out of sand so moving for it should be basically impossible. This creature just doesn't make any sense and fans have the wondering how a sandcastle made completely out of sand can move around the battlefield as fluidly as this one does. Perhaps it will be a mystery forever!

1 Why Was Ash Capable Of Winning The Alola League But Not The Kalos League?

Ash had never won a regional pokemon league prior to Alola. Fans didn't expect him to win this one either, however, he managed to defeat every opponent that stood in his way. It's bizarre that Ash won this league but he couldn't win the Kalos league because he had much weaker Pokémon during the entirety of the Sun and Moon anime.

In Kalos, Ash had a special Greninja, Goodra, and a Noivern, just to name a few, so it was shocking that he couldn't win that league, but he managed to win the Alola League with Pokémon like Rowlett. Even though Ash had some powerful creatures such as Incineroar, his team still wasn't even close to as powerful as in Kalos. The fact that Ash won this league but not any other one will leave fans wondering where Ash went wrong in every previous region where his Pokémon were more powerful, and the fact that he won with such a weak team is definitely the weirdest mystery in Alola!
