Game Freak has announced two new Pokémon titles for Nintendo Switch and smartphones on their official Twitter pagePokémon Quest is a freemium game that is currently available to download for the Nintendo Switch and will be coming to smartphones in June, while Pokémon Let's Go & Pokémon Let's Go Eevee are two console RPGs for the Nintendo Switch that are heavily integrated with Pokémon Go.

There is more in store for Pokémon fans across the world, as the official Pokémon Twitter page made sure to include a post that confirmed that Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu & Pokémon Let's Go Eevee are spinoffs and that new mainline Pokémon games are in the works. These new Pokémon games will be released during the second half of 2019.

The fans had suspected that it was still too early for full Pokémon games to appear on the Nintendo Switch. The Nintendo Switch hasn't been around for long enough for a console quality RPG to be developed. The second half of 2019 seems to be a more realistic release window for a brand new Pokémon generation to be completed.

The initial leaks of Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu & Pokémon Let's Go Eevee suggested that these games would represent the future of the series, which meant that wild Pokémon would now be caught using a motion-controlled minigame and the deep battle system would be replaced with something that was far simpler. This drew a considerable amount of ire from the fanbase who had kept Pokémon alive for years, who were angry at the possibility of Game Freak abandoning the core design of the series in order to attract the fleeting casual audience that had been brought in by Pokémon Go.

This announcement by Game Freak has given gamers a happy medium, as the Nintendo Switch now has a major Pokémon game to fill out the sparse second-year release schedule, which is tied into one of the most popular cellphone games of all time. The fans of the older games in the series also have the reassurance that "real" Pokémon games are on their way in the future, which will hopefully give them an incentive to try out the Let's Go games.

The next generation of Pokémon games will be coming to the Nintendo Switch during the second half of 2019.
