Aside from being the first original mainline Pokémon game to hit consoles in years, the latest iterations bring quite a few new features to the table. For example, Pokémon Sword & Shield are introducing gigantamaxing, which involves Pokémon turning into giant versions of themselves, equipped with attacks that unleash severe damage to opponents. For example, when Pikachu turns into a Godzilla-sized version of itself, it uses its Gigantamax-exclusive move known as G-Max Volt Crash which paralyzes every opponent.

There are other reasons to be excited for Pokémon Sword & Shield, including the fact that it is in a new region known as the Galar region. Recently, the game's art director confirmed that the region is based on the UK, which is definitely a new style for the series. Furthermore, according to an Amazon listing, Pokémon Sword & Shield may feature at least 500 Pokémon. Those are a lot of options.

As for what will follow the releases of Pokémon Sword & Shield, that is anyone's guess. Some evidence suggests that remakes for Pokémon Diamond & Pearl are next in line in the Pokémon series. Recently, new merchandise related to the Sinnoh region had been announced to be available in 2020.

In any regard, those awaiting the digital release of Pokémon Sword & Shield should consider preloading it now, so as to be able to play it immediately come the game's day of release. Both are set to be two of the biggest releases of the holidays.
