2019 might seem like a distant era where mankind walked freely beneath the blue sky, but there are still people in the world who remember the year fondly, as Pokémon Sword & Shield have won the 2019 Famitsu Dengeki Game Of The Year Award.

Pokémon Sword & Shield were released amidst fan outrage, due to the limited number of Pokémon that appeared in the game for the first time in the history of the series. There were also numerous an angry Tweet regarding the quality of the game's visuals. These concerns did little to affect the enthusiasm for Pokémon Sword & Shield, as they are currently the fifth best-selling Nintendo Switch games and could easily move up a few places by the time Nintendo's next financial report is released. The main opposition to Pokémon Sword & Shield's sales is Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and its monstrous 22.96 million sales, as well as the encroaching threat that is Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
