A new Pokemon animated short depicting Farfetch'd and Sirfetch'd battling an Escavalier has been released, as part of a promotion for new merchandise based on the fighting bird Pokemon.

The Farfetch'd line was overlooked for the longest time in the Pokemon video games, due to its weakness in competitive battles. The fact that you could only acquire a Farfetch'd in Pokemon Red & Blue through a trade evolution didn't help matters, as many players had to rely on DUX for their Pokemon journey. The Farfetch'd line received a much-needed boost in Pokemon Sword & Shield, with the introduction of a Fighting-type Galarian Farfetch'd, and a powerful evolution in the form of Sirfetch'd.

A new video on the Japanese Official Pokemon YouTube Channel tells a short story about the trials and tribulations of the Farfetch'd line. It shows two Farfetch'd and a Sirfetch'd battling an Escavalier. The enmity between Escavalier and Sirfetch'd is part of the lore of the Galar region and is a reference to jousting. The Sirefetch'd loses the battle and is forced to give up fighting forever, which is something that is detailed in its official Pokedex description in Pokemon Sword & Shield. The two remaining Farfetch'd train hard and have a rematch with the Escavalier, culminating in their victory and the Galarian Farfetch'd evolving into Sirfetch'd.

The purpose of the video is to promote new merchandise that will be available in Pokemon Center stores in Japan on October 24, which includes Farfetch'd/Sirfetch'd plushies, keyrings, t-shirts, Switch cartridge cases, pens, and eye masks.

The addition of Sirfetch'd is one of the best things about Pokemon Sword & Shield. Its presence in the game helps elevate one of the most underpowered lines in the history of the game, while also tying them into the lore of the new region. Ash Ketchum is even using a Galarian Farfetch'd in the anime, which will likely evolve into a Sirfetch'd in the future. The line has never been more popular with the fans and it's not surprising to see them receiving new merchandise in Japan.
