If Simon from Gurren Lagann had a partner Pokémon, it would absolutely be an Excadrill. The reason is not only because he had a pet mole, but that both start out as cute underground inhabitants and grow up into powerful diggers. Originally from Unova, this ground/steel-type Pokémon has the power to cut through even the strongest plating while also being known to build long tunnels underground. This is the perfect companion for you to bring along on your adventure in Pokémon Sword and Shield.

Location And How To Evolve

Drilbur can be found in various areas all over the wild, including Stony Wilderness, Giants Mirror, Dusty Bowl, and Hammerlocke Hills. Drilbur evolves into Excadrill at level thirty one. While it is not a difficult Pokémon to catch or train, the tricky part here is that they only appear in niche weather conditions. You should be able to spot them wandering during sandstorms, and funny enough, harsh sun conditions. Ironic for a subterranean species, right?

Excadrill and Drilbur are commonly used in construction work for their digging skills. Should you need to level it up quickly, check the Pokéjobs board inside the Pokémon Center, in the computer with the Rotom over it. This is a new feature introduced in Sword and Shield that works very much like the daycare. With this system, instead of paying someone to raise Pokémon for you, you can send them off to help people with various tasks requiring specific types to perform. They'll get rewards and experience points for their hard work, and you can pick how long you want to send them for. Ground-types are commonly requested, so this a perfect way for your Excadrill to rack up power.

How To Use Excadrill

Excadrill from Pokemon.

This mole leans a few good moves on his own, but you'll want to teach it the damage dealing TR67, Earth Power. It's a move that has a hundred percent accuracy in addition to being strong, which can be a tough combination to find. This Pokémon get its signature move, Drill Run, at level forty six. Dig, which Excadrill gains at level thirty four, is important because you'll get a chance to evade an attack when using it. TR74, Iron Head, is a damage dealing steel-type move that will allow you to utilize Excadrill's power against those pesky ice and fairy Pokémon. With these abilities, he's truly the drill that will pierce the heavens.
