A Pokemon TCG player was disqualified from a tournament after someone complaiend that their mom was giving them tips.

If you still think Pokemon cards died out in the early 2000s, then you'd be very, very wrong. The TCG has remained near the top of The Pokemon Company's list of priorities and has been celebrated just as much as other branches of the wider Pokemon franchise to celebrate the growing collection of monsters turning 25.

You can even compete in Pokemon TCG tournaments online, but beware if you want to give it a go, and not just because you'll come up against players who are incredibly well versed. The rules are strict. So strict that if someone doesn't take kindly to you chatting with your mom while competing in one of these tournaments, then you might well be disqualified and lose out on some potential prize money.

That's what happened to Luke 'Celio's Network' Morsa during the Pokémon Online Global Championships 2021, reports Gfinity. Celio's Network had made it to day two, and the last 16, of the tournament when they were unceremoniously booted from it. Celio's Network's mom had been sitting in the same room while they played, chatting about what was happening on-screen.

The chat between the two wasn't innocent talk about what's for dinner and how often Celio's Network does or does not clean their room, however. Their mom is also an avid Pokemon TCG player and was actually eliminated from the same tournament. The moment Celio's Network appears to have been reported for was their mom letting them know what cards their opponent had pulled after they missed it as it wasn't in the game's log.

Celio's Network has since highlighted that even if their mom wasn't on hand to let them know the missed cards, someone in the chat would have shared that information. Celio's Network also streamed the tournament on Twitch by choice. You don't have to be on camera when you play, which technically means anyone not streaming their matches live could have a room full of Pokemon card-playing moms telling them what to do.
