Pokémon, the popular Japanese video game and anime series, took the world by storm in the mid-1990s. While Pokémon games are wonderful JRPGs that capture the imagination of each and every player, there are specific difficulties that make this video game series both enjoyable and irritating.

From Pokémon Red to Sun & Moon, there are certain Pokémon that are simply unbeatable under normal or specific circumstances. While this may seem like a stretch for truly talented players, these Pokémon are simply difficult to defeat. In fact, if any trainer were to stumble into these Pokémon around Lvl 50 or so, well, that would be it.

Perhaps the most interesting aspect of Pokémon is that they are all entirely different from one another. One trainer may find battling a Weedle much harder than taking on a Gengar (Spoiler), and vice versa. Each Pokémon has a weakness, and the frustration of it all is when that "weakness" is either high-leveled or bolstered with particular stats that make the Pokémon unbeatable.

In any case, it's no surprise that most of the truly unbeatable Pokémon are derived from the classic Pokémon games, particularly from Pokémon Red to Pokémon Sapphire. Also, it's not a surprise that all of the Pokémon on this list are not legendary Pokémon. The Pokémon on this list are common, recognizable fan-favorites that have annoyed and dazzled trainers since the first release of this popular video game series.

This list will get down to the most unbeatable Pokémon that every trainer has surely seen before and may not have realized until now. So, without further ado, let's venture into the world of Pokémon!

15 A Dragon Worthy Of Game Of Thrones

via: pinterest.com

Dragonite may be the first entry on this list, but make no mistake, this pseudo-legendary Pokémon is ridiculously unbeatable. Dragonite is a dragon-type Pokémon made popular in Pokémon Silver, Gold, and Crystal.  This particular Pokémon is the ace in the hole of eventual Pokémon champion, Lance, and is also used in the Silver, Gold, and Crystal series by Clair and a number of other trainers.

Dragonite is truly unbeatable, especially when you duel Lance at Indigo Plateau. Not only is Dragonite a dragon-type Pokémon, it can use thunder attacks and they are highly effective. With just two moves, you can go from a confident, well prepared trainer to a loser.

Dragonite uses Thunder Wave to zap any Pokémon into instant paralysis, then it uses Hyper Beam to eliminate the handicapped Pokémon with just one shot. Hence, this is the most fitting Pokémon for the Dragon Master, Lance.

Machamp is the ultimate fighting-type Pokémon. It is the final evolved form of Machop. However, the most difficult aspect of Machamp is that it can learn any martial arts skill in the Pokémon series. This Pokémon also is gifted with super high strength and defense capabilities, which make this Pokémon an infuriating foe.

Machamp is commonly used by Bruno, an Elite Four Trainer in the Silver, Gold, and Crystal series. While Machamp has unique skills that bolster its physical and defensive stats, its signature move is No Guard, which increases Machamp's accuracy to 100%. For trainers that use Pokémon with semi-involuntary skills, such as Fly or Bounce, No Guard negates these techniques and allows Machamp to strike with 100% accuracy.

So, essentially, Machamp is a Pokémon that can't miss and has wicked physical and defensive stats. Meet a trainer with a tough Machamp and you may not make it out in one piece.

13 A Muk-y Situation

via: yggdrassal.deviantart.com

What's more annoying than a mass of... grime, dirt, or whatever Muk is composed of? That answer still hasn't been provided. Muk is a poison-type Pokémon with incredible defensive capabilities. Its only weaknesses are psychic and ground-type Pokémon. Any other Pokémon can't even attack this irritating blob of goo.

Still, Muk does have some attacks that does significant damage. Since Muk is a poison-type Pokémon, it can utilize certain attacks such as Sticky Hold and Poison Touch which can subdue any Pokémon into submission. Therefore, if you ever approach Muk without a psychic or ground Pokémon in possession, it's best to run, because normal attacks won't do any damage.

If you are unlucky enough to battle a trainer with a high-level Muk, then you're probably done for.

12 Chop, Chop!

In terms of Pokémon popularity, Scyther is very underrated. Scyther may be a bug-type Pokémon, but Scyther has a flurry of random attacks that make it an excellent partner in battle. Bug-type Pokémon are known for having a multitude of weaknesses, making them nothing more than collectibles for serious trainers.

Scyther is very different in this regard. Scyther is extremely fast, and possesses a very repetitive technique called, Fury Cutter. Fury Cutter can attack Pokémon with extreme damage, up to seven times. This move alone gives many players headaches when facing this Pokémon.

In Pokémon Red and Blue, Bugsy the Bug Trainer uses Scyther as her ace in the hole. Scyther is just simply too quick to be taken lightly, and when used by Bugsy herself, Scyther is unbeatable.

11 More Than Just A Mouse

Symbiosis

Symbiosis

Why is Pokémon's most beloved companion on this list? What makes Pikachu, the adorable mascot of the Pokémon series, unbeatable? Well, it's simple. Pikachu can be the strongest Pokémon in the entire series if it's used properly. Not only is Pikachu one of the most versatile Pokémon in existence, Pikachu is also very quick. In fact, that quickness is what makes Pikachu unbeatable.

While it is not common to run into Pikachu in any Pokémon game, there is perhaps no other character who can bring out the best in Pikachu than Red, the main protagonist of Pokémon Red and a rival in Pokémon Silver. In Silver, Red uses a Pikachu that is over level 80! It's his signature Pokémon, and what makes it so irritating, is that no matter what Pokémon you use, Pikachu will win.

Pikachu's common attacks are Thunderbolt, Thunderwave, and Quick Attack. At a high level, there is no defeating Pikachu when it can simply paralyze you and attack your Pokémon until it faints.

10 Don't Mess With Ghosts

Via: Reddit (carrigan)

You could say that Gengar is the scariest Pokémon. You can also say that Gengar is simply unbeatable, whether it's high-level or not. Gengar is the final evolved form of Haunter. Gengar is a dual poison and ghost Pokémon. It possesses some nasty attacks that work on ALL types of Pokémon.

To start, Gengar can use Cursed Body, which can disable enemy skills. Gengar can also use Levitate, which makes all ground-type moves ineffective. Gengar's strongest skills are Nightmare, Shadow Ball, Curse, and Dream Eater. Gengar can put any Pokémon to sleep with efficiency, and once the Pokémon is asleep, that's pretty much it.

Gengar presents an incredible challenge for trainers to defeat, mainly because it has so many devastating attacks. In Pokémon Silver, Gengar is extremely difficult to defeat without a psychic or ghost Pokémon in your party. If you don't have either, then you're out of luck.

9 The Terror Of The Seas

Gyarados is a water/flying Pokémon that is a fan-favorite among many Pokémon players. Gyarados is actually a very powerful Pokémon. Gyarados has insanely high attack, defensive, and speed parameters. Also, Gyarados possesses a rather unfair skill, which is Dragon Breath.

Dragon Breath is one of Gyarados' strongest attacks. Gyarados also possesses crazy attacks such as Thrash, Bite, and Twister. Gyarados isn't commonly used by Pokémon trainers, but in Pokémon Silver, you can battle Gyarados at the Lake of Rage. Unless you have a Pokémon who can dominate the battle, you won't beat Gyarados. Plain and simple.

8 A Thorn In Your Side

gamefaqs.com

Garchomp is a ground and dragon-type Pokémon with incredible attributes all around. Firstly, Garchomp is as fast as a jet. This is particularly why Cynthia can use her Garchomp to travel throughout the Sinnoh region in minutes. For those that have played Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, Cynthia's Garchomp has obviously been a thorn to deal with.

Garchomp's strongest move is Dragon Rush. It rarely misses, and it's super effective no matter the Pokémon type. Also, Garchomp has super high defensive stats. Garchomp will not succumb so easily to any Pokémon, whether it's Lvl 50 or Lvl 80. Garchomp also uses an underhanded move called Earthquake, which can catch your Pokémon by surprise and potentially end the battle in a defeat.

7 Hardening His Way To Your Heart

4- Metapod
Via: aminoapps.com

Don't even ask why Metapod is on the list. You know why. Metapod is simply the most irritating bug-type Pokémon. It also has the ability to become unbeatable under the right circumstances. In the older Pokémon titles such as Red, Yellow, Green, and Blue, Metapods were commonly found in Virdian Forest. Even then, these Pokémon were a pain to defeat because of one skill. That skill was Harden.

When Metapod uses Harden, it increases its defensive prowess dramatically. This can nullify any Pokémon attack, even if your Pokémon is very strong. Now, if a Metapod happens to be over Lvl 25, then defeating it may be impossible if it spams Harden throughout the battle. This especially becomes the case if you run out of PP for all of your Pokémon's moves while fighting the bug Pokémon.

6 He's The King

7- Kingdra
Via: Deviant Art (rabbidattack)

Kingdra is the final evolve form of Horsea, and a very powerful Pokémon both in the wild and with a trainer. This dual water and dragon-type Pokémon is unbeatable for a variety of reasons. One reason is mainly that Clair's Kingdra is unbeatable because your Pokémon would have to defeat a trifecta of Dragonair. If you even try to battle Kingdra in paralysis, restart the game. You won't win.

However, if you manage to defeat all of them, you will still have a battle on your hands. Kingdra employs a rather underhanded move called Smokescreen. This move has high effectiveness, and can drastically lower your Pokémon's accuracy. If your Pokémon has been hit by Smokescreen, Kingdra will use Hyper Beam if you miss an attack. Hyper Beam is an extremely powerful move that can drain the HP of your Pokémon instantly.

5 A Little Batty

via: thunderwest.deviantart.com

Golbat may not cross your mind as an unbeatable Pokémon, but make no mistake, it's certainly up there. No flying, poison-type Pokémon is more unbeatable than Golbat, the evolved form of Zubat. Golbat specifically has underhanded moves such as Supersonic, Absorb, and Confuse Ray. Each of these moves can make it extremely difficult to defeat this Pokémon.

Confuse Ray has a high hit rate and can confuse your Pokémon for the entire length of the battle. Golbat also can learn moves such as Wing Attack and Bite, which can turn the battle into a slug fest. Golbat regularly spams these attacks during a battle, and once you're confused, go ahead and chalk up a defeat.

4 Not So Gentle

via: https://memegenerator.net/Bayleef

In the early Pokémon games, your rival normally selected a Pokémon that was the weakness of the one you chose. For those that chose Totodile in Pokémon Silver, it was surely a hard road batting the main rival. That was mainly because he had Bayleef, the ultimate grass-type Pokémon. Let's break it down.

Bayleef is able to use Razor Leaf, so if you have a water-type Pokémon, you're done. Bayleef can also use Poison Powder for other types of Pokémon, and it's still just as effective. Honestly, there is no way around dealing with Bayleef. To make matters worse, Silver had a variety of tough Pokémon, which made the final battle with Bayleef a very difficult one. If you don't have any items, then you're a goner.

3 Misty's Pretty Lucky

via: youtube.com (UCzuqhhs6NWbgTzMuM09WKDQ)

Starmie, the signature Pokémon of Misty, is also a water and psychic-type Pokémon that is a big headache to say the least. Starmie has but one move that can spell doom for your entire Pokémon fleet. That's Bubblebeam. Bubblebeam obviously deals fatal damage to fire-type Pokémon, but it's also deadly to other Pokémon types as well.

Starmie can also perform Recover, undoing all of your hard work chipping away at its HP. If you aren't at least Lvl 25 when battling Misty, you're going to get swamped! Oh, and Starmie can use Confuse Ray, too. So, good luck fighting this Pokémon in a handicap match.

2 Further Proof That Dragons Are Awesome

via: http://pokemon.wikia.com/wiki/Shannon%27s_Hydreigon

Hydreigon is a dark dragon, pseudo-legendary Pokémon commonly wielded by Ghetsis. This Pokémon has three heads, and in order to defeat the Pokémon, all heads must be eliminated.

Seems easy, right? Well, wrong! As soon as you defeat one head, it shortly grows back. Then, Ghetsis uses hyper potions to nullify any damage. Additionally, Hydreigon can perform a flurry of attacks that can devastate any Pokémon. It's essentially like battling three tough Pokémon at once.

1 Don't Mess With This Cow

Via: http://pokemon.wikia.com/wiki/File:Miltank_Milk_Drink.png

At the top of the list, there is Miltank. Surprised, much? Well, Miltank may be weak in the wild, but Gym Leader Whitney's Miltank is a notorious foe. Miltank has very high defense, so it is never easy to take it down in a few strikes. Miltank's signature move is Rollout, which can inflict fatal damage in succession.

Miltank can use Rollout to attack any Pokémon up to six times. Miltank can use Rollout as a counter, and if you manage to almost bring it down, it can drink its own milk to heal all of its health! Rollout has special attack power, and it really hurts if it's performed over three times. This spam move caused many players to break their Game Boys worldwide.

There you have it. Miltank cannot be defeated.
