With every new generation of Pokémon games there tends to be a new mechanic introduced to the series. Back with the release of Pokémon X & Y in 2013, the franchise saw the introduction of Mega Evolutions. These were temporary forms pokémon could take that would alter both their appearance and typing. Plenty of fan favorites received these evolutionary forms throughout the years since their creation, but there's still plenty of creatures in need of one. It's time to look at and rank the 10 pokémon most in need of receiving a mega evolution.

10 Vileplume

When the Mega Evolutions were first revealed and Venasaur showed off its new form, the idea of other flower-based pokémon blossoming into beautiful new forms became a point of focus. Vileplume is an adorable little creature who's labeled as the Flower Pokémon. The flower on its head has always felt a little dull and could use a real injection of color, vibrancy, and height. There's so much room for creativity when designing a Mega Evolution for Vileplume that, surprisingly, no one has jumped at the opportunity yet.

9 Primeape

People often leverage the complaint that many of the first generation pokémon aren't as great as nostalgia makes them feel and that the franchise leans too heavily on them. That being said, Primeape is never really mentioned as a fan-favorite from the Kanto region and often gets overlooked or forgotten about. Despite making a great appearance in the anime Primeape has never really received any love. The dream would be a Mega Evolution that turns it into a fighting machine, but a regional variant would be much appreciated as well.

8 Ninetales

Ninetales is a pokémon that's heavily inspired by fox spirit or nine-tailed fox from Chinese and Japanese folklore. This means that this pokémon has very strong ties to the culture in which the Pokémon games are developed and it probably holds a special place with a lot of people at GameFreak. When it was revealed to not have a Mega Evolution it just never sat right, but thankfully it received a regional variant in the Alolan region by way of the release of Pokémon Sun & Moon in November of 2016.

7 Braviary

Bird pokémon seem like a dime a dozen as there are so many of them introduced with every new generation of games. Braviary happens to stand out among the crowd thanks to a very vibrant design that's heavily inspired by Native American culture and aesthetics. They're known as being brave warriors of the sky that will stop at nothing to protect the ones they care about. A Mega form of Braviary could expand on the influence Native American culture had on its design and it could make the headdress an immaculately beautiful display.

6 Ursaring

For a pokémon based on a bear and being simply a normal-type, Usraring is the best version of whatever that could have been. The unfortunate thing for it is that it's never received any love after its initial appearance in the Johto region with the 2nd generation of games. Fans expected it to at least receive some love via a new region variant, but that still hasn't happened yet. A Mega Evolution of it could play on the pokémon's connection to the moon and give it a secondary typing like dark or psychic.

5 Tyrantrum

There will never be a generation of human beings that don't find dinosaurs cool. The idea of large reptilian-like creatures roaming the Earth has captured the attention of kids for decades and that interest in them doesn't die out as you grow older. Tyrantrum is the apex of what a dinosaur-inspired pokémon could be, but that vision could be taken further if it was gifted a Mega Evolution. The golden crown on its head and royal collar on its neck could be the points of emphasis, and here's hoping they would make its scales a dark gray or charcoal black.

4 Mamoswine

Mamoswine is a pokémon that happens to combine two very wild, intimidating, and primal creatures in both the wild boar and mammoth. The pokémon itself is a large specimen as it comes in at over 8 ft. tall and well over 600 lbs. on average. A Mega Evolution of this thing could go in a couple of directions. They could either focus on bringing out more of its ice-typing and using more blues and whites, or they could double down on the mammoth fur and make this thing the king of possible Pokémon plushies.

3 Torterra

Starter pokémon always seem like the best candidates for new mechanics because they're often the most well-known and popular creatures in their given generation and region. A turtle with a biome on its back has often been a subject of focus in fantasy storytelling and Torterra is exactly that in the world of Pokémon. A Mega Evolution form of the grass-type starter could amp up the scope of the environment on its back and fully realize the potential of it. The hormone injected ones featured in Detective Pikachu didn't fully realize the best of what Torterra has to offer.

2 Incineroar

Not only does Incineroar exude great professional wrestling energy, but it also happens to be one of the fiercest feline pokémon to ever exist. When looking for pokémon that are good candidates to receive a Mega Evolution you want to keep an eye out for design elements that can be expanded upon. Incineroar's belt is made of living flames that could grow and expand in its Mega form and could grow to encompass other parts of its body. With this new form, the flames could become a more prominent feature of its overall design.

1 Feraligatr

Feraligatr is one of the oldest and most beloved water-type starters in the Pokémon franchise. The fact that none of the Johto starters from the 2nd generation of games received Mega Evolutions is a travesty, but the most heartbreaking of the bunch is easily the Big Jaw Pokémon known as Feraligatr. Being very dinosaur and alligator-like in design makes its original design quite beloved and it's easy to see how a Mega Evolutionary form could expand on its primal reptilian characteristics and make it even cooler.
