Pokemon Unite launched for Nintendo Switch earlier today and has taken the world by storm so far. Featuring some of the most popular Pokemon in the series' storied history, plenty of people who are wondering whether or not the new MOBA from Nintendo and Tencent is worth installing. If you're included in that group, you're probably curious about what Pokemon are in Pokemon Unite.

While there are fan-favourites like Charizard and Pikachu on the roster, some of the 'mons who made the cut may come as somewhat of a surprise. I was certainly shocked when Cramorant took me out, to say the least.

So, if you're on the hunt for a convenient list collecting every Pokemon in Pokemon Unite, look no further than this handy guide. It's worth remembering that these Pokemon are split into Defender, Attacker, All-Rounder, Speedster, and Support categories, which probably helps contextualize why these specific 'mons were the one to make the cut.

Pokemon Unite: Every Pokemon In The Game

pokemon unite every pokemon

At the time of writing, there are currently 20 Pokemon to choose from in Pokemon Unite. Given that this is a MOBA and will ideally be supported for quite a long time, that number will likely increase over the coming months and years. This is just the game's initial lineup, which includes Pokemon from every Gen except Generation 2 - the best one. Weird, eh?

Here are all 20 Pokemon that are currently available to unlock in Pokemon Unite.

  • Absol
  • Alolan Ninetales
  • Charizard
  • Cinderace
  • Cramorant
  • Crustle
  • Eldegoss
  • Garchomp
  • Gengar
  • Greninja
  • Lucario
  • Machamp
  • Mr. Mime
  • Pikachu
  • Slowbro
  • Snorlax
  • Talonflame
  • Venusaur
  • Wigglytuff
  • Zeraora

It's worth recognizing that as with all games of this type, Pokemon Unite isn't necessarily balanced at the moment. Despite being a mainstay in competitive Pokemon over the years, Gengar is relatively weak at the moment, while unsuspecting 'mons like Crustle are weirdly viable compared to loads of ostensibly stronger Pokemon. At the beginning of the game, you'll be able to choose from Garchomp, Crustle, Machamp, and Cinderace, while Zeraora can be unlocked for free. All of these 'mons are pretty good in their own right, so you don't need to fork over loads of cash to get the likes of Lucario and Absol. Plus, you'll get to pick a new 'mon to add to your roster early on - I chose Charizard, then unlocked Slowbro at level two and Venusaur at level five. There don't appear to be any more level-gated unlocks after that, but by level ten you should be able to afford at least one of the most expensive 'mons in the game using in-game currency earned from simply playing.

There you have it - every Pokemon in Pokemon Unite at launch. Obviously more will be added in due course, but as it stands, these are all of the ones you can currently play as. Just be sure to remember that the best 'mons aren't necessarily the coolest ones - this is a MOBA after all, meaning it's more down to strategic viability than whether or not a Pokemon can learn Meteor Mash.
