Pokemon Unite is no stranger to glitches, but this one might just be the most morbid. As one player has discovered, there's a bug in the game which causes Squirtle to lose its head when it evolves.

For whatever reason, something can go horrifically wrong when Squirtle evolves into Wartortle. In a video shared by Reddit user mo4212, you can clearly see that the Pokemon's head completely failed to render, causing the water type to run around without one.

Despite being beheaded mid-evolution, it appears that Wartortle can otherwise continue as normal. In the clip, we see the player go on as if nothing has happened, even shooting a Hydro Pump out of a non-existent mouth.

Watching the clip, it's hard to tell what caused the bug in the first place. It is possible that Squirtle getting stunned just before it was meant to evolve disrupted the process somehow, but this is quite a common occurrence, whereas being beheaded is not.

This is actually the first glitch to turn an aspect of the game into a void. As we reported earlier this month, some players were getting a bug that removed the entire map for them, leaving them unable to score any goals or otherwise interact with anything. Funny enough, the only thing they could do was attack other players - who couldn't see them whatsoever. This gave them a strategical advantage on that front, but wasn't a whole lot of help considering they couldn't actually score goals for their team.

With any luck, these sorts of bugs will be ironed out in time for the game's mobile launch this Wednesday, September 22. Developer Timi will at least have a window of opportunity to ensure that, as the game will be offline on Tuesday for ten hours in preparation. Once it's back online, mobile players can get in on the action, or Switch players can move over to this platform if they want to mix it up. The platforms have cross-progression, so you won't lose any of the Pokemon or loot you've won so far.
