Creating characters is one of the most fun aspects of playing Dungeons and Dragons. The possibilities for what you can create are endless and limited only by your own imagination and whatever rules the Dungeon Master lays down. Sometimes though, working out of imagination can be challenging. Perhaps you’ve been playing the game for years and you just aren’t sure what to create next.

On the other hand, maybe you’re newer to the game and you have no clue what you want to play. A fun solution for both is to recreate a character from another medium! This list will describe ten such characters that with items, classes, and other details, you can play as in D&D 5th edition.

10 DC Comics: Batman

The Dark Knight would make a perfect D&D campaign filled with mystery, stealth and intrigue. A Rogue of the Inquisitive subclass is the perfect fit for Batman. This class is an expert in detecting lies, investigating, perception, and a skill for finding the weaknesses in their foes.

With this class, you will be your party’s infiltrator, investigator, and at the same time, you’d also be their sneaky attacker. To complete your re-creation, you can ask your DM to let you have or let you acquire a Cloak of the Bat. This cloak allows you to grasp the edges and fly while in dimness or darkness, just like the Dark Knight, as well as turn into a bat while in those conditions.

9 Aang: Avatar: The Last Airbender

Avatar: The Last Airbender was a show that was loved by many. One of the main characters, Aang was a young child who mastered control over Earth, Air, Fire and Water and used them for combat. To recreate this, it's as simple as becoming a Monk with the Way of the Four Elements subclass.

You’ll gain access to up to four elemental disciplines that will give you unique attacks and abilities connected to one of the four elements such as manipulating water/ice, imbuing your strikes with fire, using the strength of the earth as defense and striking foes with blasts of air.

8 Son Goku: Dragon Ball Series

Goku is one of the most recognizable faces from one of the most popular animes of all time. A master martial artist and a powerful, honorable warrior, he is a character that many would love to play as in D&D. Xanathar’s Guide to Everything has a Monk subclass that is practically made for this purpose.

The Way of the Sun Soul is perfect for creating your own Saiyan warrior. The radiant sun bolt attack is akin to the small Ki blasts Goku fires, the searing arc strike is a fiery version of the iconic Kamehameha, and lastly, the searing burst is identical to the famous Spirit Bomb.

7 DC Comics: Poison Ivy

Poison Ivy is a fantastic villain from Batman’s roster of insane foes. With her affinity for plants, she makes for an ideal druid. You’ll want to specifically choose the Circle of Land with the forest being your choice of landscape. The spells granted to you by this circle will play into Poison Ivy’s character and the other abilities do as well.

As you level up, your connection with nature strengthens until the very wilds themselves shield you and hesitate to strike at you. When choosing your spells, focus on spells that do poison damage and things that emphasize plant life, such as Poison Spray, Thorn Whip, Spike Growth, Cloud Kill, and Wrath of Nature.

6 X-Men: Nightcrawler

Nightcrawler is an iconic mutant from the X-Men. From his unique appearance to his awesome teleport ability, he's too cool not to recreate. A Tiefling is the best race to choose for appearance as they have unusual hues of skin color and tails that can have spade tips. Regarding class, a Way of Shadow Monk is your choice.

This lets you teleport from shadow to shadow and rule the darkness in stealth, eventually becoming invisible. In addition, you can make sneaky attacks on enemies when your allies are attacking them. Combine this with the standard abilities of monks and you have a pretty faithful re-creation.

5 X-Men: Mystique

Mystique is one of the ultimate Rogues of pop culture. Her shapeshifting abilities and deadly precision makes her feared and puts paranoia in any ranks. First and foremost, you’ll need to pick a Changeling for your race. This will allow you to shapeshift into people you’ve seen and change your voice.

The Rogue subclass Mastermind has a few abilities that will be a bit redundant but it helps complete and strengthens your ability to seamlessly blend in anywhere at any time. It allows you to redirect the enemy's attacks, gain insight into their strengths and abilities, as well as manipulate them for information. The Assassin subclass would also be suitable, giving you huge attack bonuses on unsuspecting prey.

4 Puss in Boots from Shrek

This might seem like an unusual addition to this list but if you love this character from Shrek and his spin-off movie, it's possible to recreate Puss in Boots. First of all, your race will need to be a Tabaxi, a race of cat creatures. Next, your class will be a Bard of the College of Blades.

This will give you proficiency in dueling, and give you different blade flourishes, allowing you to fight in the same flashy, dexterous manner as Puss. As a bard, you naturally charm and draw people to you. Focusing on spells to charm and persuade your opponents will make your Tabaxi Bard the spitting image of Puss in Boots.

3 Scarlet Witch from Marvel’s Avengers Series

Scarlet Witch; first introduced as a villain in Avengers: Age of Ultron and later a member of the Avengers as well as Vision’s paramour. Her powers over the mind and the seeds she planted in Tony Stark nearly tore the superheroes apart. You too can spread dissonance in the ranks of your enemies by creating a Bard with the College of Whispers subclass.

You can cause paranoia in your enemies, learn information about them, and tap into their darkest fears, just like in Avengers. Your melee attacks cut into the target’s mind as well. Spells like Synaptic Static, Psychic Scream, and Crown of Madness are perfect for Scarlet Witch.

2 Samurai Jack: Jack

Samurai Jack was an animated show that aired on Cartoon Network from 2001 to 2017. It's a beloved series and its titular character was just as liked. Cool and collected in the face of danger, honorable to no end, Jack embodies every aspect of the noble samurai. Xanathar’s Guide to Everything provides the Samurai subclass for the Fighter class and it's a perfect fit.

The feats gained from this subclass allow you to strike quickly, strike accurately, and even use the indomitable warrior spirit to keep fighting for a time after death. In addition, you gain prowess in social settings, much like how Jack is charming and likeable with his discipline and wisdom.

1 X-Men: Storm

Storm from The X-Men is a powerful, fantastic character. She commands the power of storms and the weather to bring down nature’s wrath on her foes. Xanathar’s Guide to Everything provides the perfect subclass to accurately recreate her.

Choose the human race, the Sorcerer class with your arcane origin being Storm Sorcery. This will give you domain over the element of air, giving you flying, and the ability to throw thunder and lightning when you are struck. To complete the image, take spells focused on weather effects such as Lightning Bolt, Storm Sphere, Whirlwind, and Fog Cloud.
