The Dragon Ball series by Akira Toriyama features a wide variety of characters. Most of the Z-fighters are humanoids and look like any other person on the street. Only a few of the characters might stand out, like Krillin with his shaved head and short stature or Bulma with her striking blue hair. Though Piccolo is one of the few Z-Fighters that stands out on his own, the other characters don’t shine on their own until they transform into Super Saiyan mode.

The villains of Dragon Ball immediately draw in viewers. Toriyama may have waited to bring out his full creativity in the enemies. They range from creatures he feared as a child to the people in his office. Dragon Ball’s enemies not only look evil but they also have frightening personalities. They’re not just looking to steal candy from a baby. They want to destroy planets and entire alien lifeforms.

Lord Beerus is one of the most powerful enemies to appear in the Dragon Ball series. With an appearance inspired by Egyptian artwork, Beerus is a looming figure that demands respect. Fans were on the edge of their seats when he and Goku fought above Earth. Beerus’ motivations are unclear, which make him an intriguing, yet frightening, villain.

20 Demands All Of Your Pudding

via: dragonballuniverse.wikia.com

In many science fiction stories, aliens aren’t capable of digesting human food. Dragon Ball features a wide range of human, robotic, and alien lifeforms, that enjoy every meal that Earth has to offer. In Dragon Ball Super, Beerus met Buu at a party. Buu was enjoying pudding cups with a friend when Beerus appeared. Whis asked Beerus if he’d ever had the opportunity to try out the delicious dessert. The two aliens ended up fighting over the pudding. Beerus was so angry that he threw Buu into a nearby lake. It takes very little to make Beerus angry. If the God of Destruction asks for a pudding cup, share before you end up in a lake.

19 A Strange Calm Before The Storm

via: dragonball.wikia.com

Any Dragon Ball fan knows the moment that Goku transformed into Super Saiyan mode for the first time. He witnessed his best friend Krillin be destroyed, and his emotions went haywire. Many of the Z-Fighters with Saiyan blood transform into their more powerful forms the same way.

Beerus's rage may have a hair trigger, but he also stays unusually calm in most situations.

That calmness makes others uneasy for awhile as no one knows when he'll snap. Those around him learn to do what he wants and feed him properly, and Beerus will remain reasonable. It takes the Z-Fighters awhile before they can relax easily around the alien feline. They learn that by treating him with respect, it made Beerus respect them a tiny bit.

18 His Pettiness Has Destructive Results

via: dragonball.wikia.com

Beerus has lived for millions of years. His travels have taken him to different planets and worlds. On one of his adventures, the God of Destruction visited North Kai's Planet in the Other World. King Kai was courteous to the God at first. The two play a racing video game together. King Kai defeats Beerus in the game, and the God isn't a graceful loser. In a rage, he destroyed a majority of the planet. King Kai was forced to live on a single remaining chunk with a road that may or may not exist just to annoy Beerus. When asked about it later, Beerus claimed he destroyed it because he didn't like the food. Loyal Dragon Ball fans know the truth and that Beerus is just a sore loser.

17 Is A Critical Gourmet

via: dragonball.wikia.com

Beerus is one of the oldest beings in the Dragon Ball series. His travels have taken him to multiple planets, all with their types of foods.

Beerus has high standards when it comes to the food he consumes.

After waking up from a decades-long slumber, he travels to a planet inhabited by aliens that have pig-like features for some much-needed nourishment. He tries out several dishes and is impressed by many of them. One of the recipes had devastating results. He is angered once he realizes the food is too greasy. With a single tap on the table, Beerus destroys half the planet. Whis believes that Beerus overreacted, but Beerus disagrees. He thinks that greasy food is unhealthy and can cause bodies to become sluggish. Though most agree with Whis, Beerus believes he did the galaxy a favor.

16 Who Knew Chopsticks Could Be So Powerful?

via: dragon-ball-nation-josh.wikia.com

Beerus may be known for destroying worlds, but he is also a God. He is a sophisticated feline who knows his manners. He visited Bulma's birthday party. The God was treated with respect, and in return, he was civil towards the other guests. After getting annoyed about missing out on pudding, the other Z-Fighters attempt to take him down. Beerus defeats Piccolo, Tien, and Android 18, with a single pair of chopsticks. Beerus is so powerful that he can defeat beings that were previously villains with just a pair of cutlery. These failures may seem more of a reflection of what being good can do to a person's power level. The only person who makes Beerus hesitate in his cutlery rampage is Bulma, who slaps him for ruining her party.

15 Can’t Be Destroyed So Easily

via: youtube.com (Lu Bu Feng Xian)

There’s a reason why Beerus has lived for several human lifetimes. He rests for long periods of time and eats well to regain his strength. Most know that Beerus is a powerful lifeform that can’t be defeated easily.

In an attempt to take him down, Beerus' foes have tried devious, unhonorable methods.

In the very first chapter of Dragon Ball Super, Beerus is shown visiting a familiar planet inhabited by pig-like aliens. Instead of feeding him greasy food, they spike his food with poison. The aliens are shocked when it does not affect the God of Destruction. Beerus not only can detect poisons, but they cannot harm him. Of course, Beerus isn’t happy with the attempt on his life. He destroys the entire planet for their deceptive trick.

14 Wiped Out A Majority Of Rude Reptiles

via: aminoapps.com/dragonball.wikia.com

The dinosaurs in the Dragon Ball universe are similar to the reptiles we know today. They have made an appearance throughout Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, and Dragon Ball GT. Many of them seem like ruthless reptiles that try to hurt people, like Chi-Chi. Beerus tells the Z-Fighters he destroyed all of these creatures. They were rude to him, so he made them instinct. We don't know what period this happened. Since the God is likely older than Earth, he wiped them out before humans populated the planet. Many have disputed Beerus' claim, but the God may not have been lying. Dinosaurs not only live on Earth but also on Namek and Cretaceous. It could explain how dinosaurs ended up back on Earth after Beerus initially destroyed them.

13 Has His Ways Of Silencing Others

via: aminoapps.com

The Shinjin race and Beerus can’t destroy each other. Beerus needs the Kai people to stay alive, and they know it. The Shinjin is a respectful race, and Beerus keeps his distance. Old Kai managed to anger the God of Destruction. During what they call a “trifling” argument, Beerus became enraged by the older Kai.

Beerus couldn’t destroy the Old Kai, so he found another way to silence the elder.

Beerus used his power to seal Old Kai in the Z Sword and sealed it in stone. The Z-Fighters eventually found their way to the sword. They broke the sword and freed Old Kai from his metal prison. As with many relationships in the Dragon Ball universe, both Beerus and Old Kai are later seen enjoying a meal together as if nothing happened.

12 Foes Fear His Power Levels

via: youtube.com (JEDISAIYANPL)

Power levels are a big deal in the Dragon Ball series. Many of the characters will use special devices to strategize their moves. Even if an enemy can’t be easily destroyed, the Z-Fighters will still do their best to protect Earth. Goku is one of the strongest fighters in the series. Though Goku has visited the afterlife a few times, he always manages to come back. When he and five other fighters create Super Saiyan God mode, his power level is six. According to Toriyama, Beerus in his normal state is a level ten. Beerus doesn’t have to do anything while Goku has to work six times as hard to be considered a worthy foe. Even if you’re not scared of Beerus’ power levels, his master, Whis, is at level fifteen.

11 Befriended A Mighty Villain

via: forum.gamer.com.tw

Frieza caused many issues for the Z-Fighter team. He's a powerful fighter that has caused his fair share of destruction. Though Beerus doesn't like evil creatures, he was impressed by Frieza's strength. They worked together with Frieza doing Beerus' bidding. Beerus was able to work with the alien to control several planets.

Frieza wasn't big on working with someone, but he was afraid to cross the God of Destruction.

He knows how powerful Beerus was. As time passed, Beerus grew tired of the alien henchman. Frieza left the God of Destruction to fight the Saiyans on Earth. After destroying the planet, Whis used his Temporal Do-Over abilities. The Z-Fighters were able to destroy Frieza. Though Beerus didn't really like Goku and his friends, he did like Earth food.

10 Is Inspired By A Miraculous Pet

via: dragonballuniverse.wikia.com/rexkwizit.com

Artists will often use animals and monsters for inspiration when designing their characters. Beerus has purple fur and unique feline features that make him stand out from the rest of the cast. The villain's appearance is modeled after Toriyama's cat, Debo. Debo is a Cornish Rex which is mostly hairless except for its fine undercoat. The cat is over ten years old and developed a serious illness. Toriyama brought Debo to the vet, and the diagnosis wasn't good. The artist was prepared to say his final goodbye to his beloved pet. Luckily, Debo miraculously got better without any extensive treatments. The vet was so shocked he said Debo might be a "demon." Debo's experience likely inspired Toriyama to develop the God of Destruction.

9 Hard Work Paid Off

via: melty.fr

Beerus may be the God of Destruction, but that doesn’t mean his powers were instantly granted to him. Beerus is a dedicated martial artist and student. He enjoys training to become strong.

Due to his determination, Beerus has become one of the most powerful and feared fighters in the Dragon Ball series.

Training for eons has helped as well, making him almost an unstoppable force against the Z-Fighters. Since Beerus is so dedicated to his craft, he recognizes other outstanding fighters not quite at his level, such as Goku and Vegeta. Those who are truly more powerful than himself, such as Whis and Zen'ō, he speaks to with full respect. Beerus may be quick to turn an argument into a fist fight, but he always pays respect to those who have earned it.

8 Can’t Trick A Trickster

via: dragonball.wikia.com

Beerus is so powerful that fighters want to work with him. Many listen to Beerus only because they fear him. Since the God wields so much power, it only seems natural that others would want to control him for their own evil purposes. Demigra is one such villain who attempted to use Dark Magic to control Beerus. The God could mimic the technique. Beerus tricked Demigra by displaying glowing eyes and an aura, which replicated the God of the Demon Realm's technique. Demigra is so impressed that he tricked a God that he proceeds to mock Beerus. While Demigra is laughing, Beerus launches a Sphere of Destruction at the villain. Thanks to Beerus' quick thinking, he and Future Warrior defeat Demigra together.

7 Reduced A King Into A Foot Rest

via: dragonball.wikia.com

Beerus and Whis were treated to a royal banquet on Planet Vegeta. He had no complaints about the food but wanted to be more relaxed. Beerus requested the most comfortable pillow on the planet, but King Vegeta only gave him the second most comfortable. This action would be a costly mistake for Vegeta's father.

King Vegeta's greed and deception highly offended Lord Beerus.

The God forced the king to become his footrest instead, which humiliated him before his subjects and precious son. Beerus would later speak to Frieza about the event. The God commanded Frieza to destroy Planet Vegeta due to the actions of their King and dislike of Saiyan race. It was a small, greedy act from King Vegeta but it had massive consequences for the Saiyan race.

6 Can Detect How Much You Want To Destroy Him

via: dragonballuniverse.wikia.com

After living for eons, Beerus has had to work hard to survive. He trains his body to fight off foes on every planet he visits. Beerus has developed the ability to detect a person's power level. Sometimes this amuses him, as someone not close enough to his own is just child's play. For more severe battles, he's able to detect how dangerous the fight will be. He can identify another being's intent to destroy. Goku and the Kaioshin also have this ability, but Beerus has fine-tuned his. Beerus and Whis were the only two beings who could detect Zamasu's intent to destroy them. As the other Z-Fighters stood around, oblivious to the bad vibes, Beerus destroyed Zamasu before he could destroy anyone else.

5 Is A Master Manipulator

via: dragonball.wikia.com

The villains of Dragon Ball are tough. Unless a Z-Fighter manages to cool them down or befriend them, they'll only stop their destructive habits until they're destroyed. Beerus can make for villains do his bidding. He was successful in making Frieza fear him enough to control him.

Beerus loves to show off his dominance and make others fear him.

He knows he can destroy a planet with a simple tap and uses it to his advantage. Besides from using villains to do his work for him, he also loves to threaten Whis and the Z-Fighters. Unless they do what he commands, Beerus will threaten to destroy Earth. Beerus doesn't intend on doing it, but knowing the God's unpredictable personality, a threat is enough to make others give in to his commands.

4 Scares The Dragon God

via: youtube.com (Beerus Super)

After being enraged by Buu's greed, Beerus was ready to destroy Earth. He took out most of the Z Fighters with a pair of chopsticks. Before Beerus can act, Goku asks for some time to find the Super Saiyan God. Wanting a fair fight, Beerus agrees. Goku gathers the seven Dragon Balls and summons Shenron. Upon seeing the God of Destruction, Shenron is visibly scared. The Dragon God didn't expect to see Beerus up close and personal. Shenron acts respectful towards Beerus but is afraid to upset him. As soon as he told Goku how to create a Super Saiyan God, Shenron disappeared. He was so fearful of Beerus that he scattered all of the Dragon Balls across the lands. He didn't want to face Beerus ever again.

3 Leaves No Witnesses Behind

via: dailymotion.com (Beerus Vs Whis)

Beerus destroying a planet is as natural as breathing for us humans. Not much has to happen for him to take out an entire planet. While the destruction means the world is destroyed, it doesn't mean that he removes the people from the planet first.

Beerus is happy to eliminate an entire planet, including its lifeforms.

The God of Destruction is partially to blame for the near elimination of the entire Saiyan race. If he sees survivors, he will often eliminate them for petty reasons afterward. Gowasu knows about Beerus' destructive behavior. After the God and Goku fought, Gowasu wonders why Goku is still living. Beerus most likely had respect for Goku after the battle and allowed him to live. Plus, if he destroyed Earth, Beerus would never get to taste pudding.

2 Must Maintain The Balance

When most people hear Beerus’ title, they know he’s a villain. He’s the God of Destruction, and his job is to eliminate threats. Though some threats don’t deserve such harsh punishments, not every God is perfect in the world of Dragon Ball. Beerus’ primary role is to destroy planets. There are so many in the universe that the lifeforms cause havoc and fight. By destroying some and letting others exist, Beerus can maintain some sense of balance within the 7th Universe. Other planets quickly grew to know about the God of Destruction. To get on his good side, they hold feasts for Beerus with an attempt to spare their world. Some planets only offend him with their poor culinary choices, while others, like Earth, are spared of his wrath.

1 Even His Sneezes Cause Mayhem

via: fr.ign.com

Beerus has many personality traits that are similar to a cat. He sleeps for decades at a time to regain his strength for more destruction. Beerus doesn't always mean to destroy a world. While standing with Whis, Goku, and Vegeta, a golden butterfly flew under his nose. It caused Beerus to unleash a powerful sneeze. A sneeze may seem normal, but Beerus is the God of Destruction. Goku and Vegeta barely moved out of the way as a powerful blast flew from the God's mouth.

Beerus' sneezes contain a concentrated amount of ki that is capable of destroying a planet.

In Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F, Beerus' sudden sneeze knocked out an entire planet beside his temple. Beerus’ powerful sneezes even have the ability to destroy suns.
