Prey — or as we like to call it, 2017's Mimic-Hunting Simulator — is a game made by Arkane Studios in which you take control of Morgan Yu, the Vice President of TranStar Industries, as they try and survive on the Talos 1 overrun by mysterious creatures called Typhon. Now, for anyone familiar with Arkane Studio's other games, such as Dishonored, the game design's trust in your intelligence and much of the content will likely feel very familiar.

And, like Dishonored, Prey is surprisingly long with a lot of different variables that can massively affect that overall playtime. So, let’s take a look at how long the game takes to beat on average, what content is included in each category, and why it takes that amount of time.

How Long Does It Take To Complete The Main Campaign?

Prey - Wallpaper Of Morgan Yu Running At Enemy

For those gunning to complete Prey's Story Mode, without stopping for any side quests or anything like that, the run should take around 16 hours, according to How Long To Beat.

There are a lot of different decisions you can make throughout the course of your run, whether it's in the way you "level up" your version of Morgan Yu, or in the choices you make when talking to other NPCs. But, as long as you're focusing on completing the mainline story only, a full run of Prey shouldn't take all that long (just don't skip that post-credits scene).

Prey - Fighting Off A Phantom Close Up

The Main Story run of Prey that includes all the side quests clocks in at around 27 hours, give or take.

Prey isn’t as big as most “open-world” games, in fact, it's not even an open-world game really, but it has a fair bit more to do in it than you might expect. This game has 40+ optional side quests, most of which include multiple steps, conversations, going back and forth between two or more locations, and so on.

How Long Does It Take To 100%?

Prey - Unlocking The Platinum Trophy -TranStar Employee Of The Year-

Trying to Platinum Prey and go the completionist route, getting all collectibles, items, and viewing all conversations, takes around 43 hours on average. Though, if you include a Completionist Run of the Mooncrash DLC with that, the time jumps up to around 63 hours or so.

Mooncrash DLC

How Long To Beat reported this DLC taking about 12 hours for just the main campaign, and around 20 hours if you're trying to experience every aspect of the DLC

In this DLC, you take control of five potential characters, always starting with Andrius Alekna and unlocking more as you go along. The big thing about this DLC, other than the fact that it has almost nothing to do with the main game’s plot, is the fact that it's Arkane’s attempt at a roguelike version of Prey.

Basically, the map layout always stats the same, but if you die, the enemy, hazard, and loot locations/possibilities change and are randomized. Because of the RNG elements of this DLC, the “time to beat” is a bit hard to gauge.

Typhon Hunter DLC

The Typhon Hunter DLC is not very playable as the multiplayer community isn't particularly active, so most games will be filled with bots. Basically, don't worry about this adding to your playtime.
