Nintendo Switch prices on Amazon have sky-rocketed since it started to become clear people were going to have to stay at home for the foreseeable future.

As most people around the world have become forced to spend almost all of their time at home, more people than normal have turned to video games. Nintendo will have benefited greatly from that as chances are most casual/non-gamers will have turned to the Switch. However, news that the outbreak has affected shipments of the console from Asia has had an unwanted effect.

It has resulted in price gougers charging exorbitant amounts for the console, and desperate Switch-less gamers coughing up the money. Numbers provided by Thinknum revealed Amazon's Switch prices started to rise around March 13, 2020. Since then, things have gotten out of hand as the average price has risen from the regular retail price of $299 to a staggering $452. That's a 52% price-hike.

Amazon claims to be one step ahead of price gougers in most instances but in this case, that doesn't appear to be true. In fairness, it is probably busy tackling the face masks and hand sanitizer being sold on its site. Both products have also seen their fair share of price gouging for obvious reasons. The bad news? Anyone who wants a Switch right now is going to have to pay handsomely for the privilege.
