Project Awakening, the elusive fantasy action-RPG that many believed will follow Deep Down's fate, is still not cancelled. For the first time in three years, the team at Cygames has revealed some new in-engine footage, offering fresh looks at the title's quite impressive visuals.Originally announced as a PlayStation 4 title back in 2018, Project Awakening (which is still a working title) suddenly surfaced during the recent Cygames Tech Conference live stream (via Twinfinite). The studio is using its own custom Cyllista Game Engine for the game, which could explain the long development cycle and extremely rare updates throughout the past few years.Related: Obsidian Is Taking On The Elder Scrolls With Its Next Big RPG, And It Might Just WinWhat's good, though, is that the new engine delivers very promising graphics — if you can still be amazed by such things in modern games. In the video, the team shows a highly-detailed environment with rich and dense foliage, natural lighting, and spectacular draw distance — check out the new footage below.[EMBED_YT]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tVVnKMZmFfE[/EMBED_YT]Unfortunately, as it was only a technical showcase dedicated to the developer's background creation techniques and rendering tools, there are no new details about Project Awakening itself. From what we already saw, Project Awakening looks somewhat like a mix between Monster Hunter and Dragon's Dogma, influenced by FromSoftware's souls-like games — and there are dragons in it. Simply put, it is a third-person action-slasher with nasty bosses, tense and realistic sword combat, and a beautifully crafted open-world environment. The creators also teased some co-op multiplayer aspects for Project Awakening, with the idea to support up to 12 players in one session.Judging from its fancy looks and the three-year silence since the initial announcement, Project Awakening is presumably targeting PS5 now, though it's still not confirmed officially. However, back in 2019, producer Kenichiro Takaki hinted the game might launch as a PlayStation 5 title if the development dragged on.Project Awakening is currently in development with no updates regarding its target platforms or release date available as of now, so players better be ready to wait several more years for the intriguing game to arrive.Next: I Relate To Kit From Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart On A Spiritual Level
