If you thought the good ol' days of Garry's Mod Prop Hunt were behind you, prepare for a blast of hilarious nostalgia neatly packaged in intense horror survivor gameplay. Propnight has come to the Steam Games Store, combining all the hijinks of classic Prop Hunt with action-horror mechanics of games like Dead By Daylight.

The unusual blend of gameplay brings its own challenges, forcing players to disguise themselves as rubber chickens and totem poles to evade a variety of horror movie-style killers just long enough to escape their clutches. For survivors new to Propnight or its gaming influences, here are a few tips to make it through the night.

10 Jump To Boost Your Speed

Speed is key when a killer is on your tail, especially if you are getting tunneled. As a prop, not only does jumping give you a boost of speed, but you have a "double jump" which gives you even more height. Larger props with more "bouncy" physics like car tires will get even more height and speed by utilizing their jump.

This tactic works well undisguised too, and it is a good strategy to switch between survivor and "prop" while making your escape. Use "shift" to outrun the killer as a survivor, and once your stamina is used up, find a "bouncy" prop to swap to. For indoor maps like the House, be sure to jump over obstacles like couches or even stair railings to move out of the killer's sight.

9 The Smaller The Prop, The Better

The basics of Prop Hunt apply to its new, more gruesome successor as well. The smaller the prop you disguise yourself as, the harder it is for the killer to find you. Unlike Garry's Mod Prop Hunt, of course, in Propnight you need to stay on the move as you repair five Propmachines to open the escape doors.

Smaller props can move through the maps with much more ease, staying out of the killer's line of sight. Small props also have tinier hitboxes, and chances are even if the killer takes a swing at you, they could still miss entirely and mistake you for an actual can of baked beans.

8 Stun The Killer With Props

Propnight gives players a leg up over other survival games, by allowing them to actually fight back against the killers. While disguised as a prop, if you can bounce on top of the killer's head, you will momentarily stun them, obscuring their vision and rooting them in place for a few seconds while you dash away.

This move can be tricky to land, however, and it is normally best attempted with a larger prop. Think, "Bugs Bunny dropping a baby grand piano on Elmer Fudd" types of hijinks.

7 Don't Hide Around Propmachines

It can be tempting to disguise yourself as one of the many props littered around the Propmachines you need to repair, and while you can often get away with this, it is not the winning strategy. When you fail a skill check quick-time event on one of the Propmachines, that machine lights up, becoming visible through the map to the killer.

If the killers head that way, the area around the Propmachine is likely to be the first place they will check. Even if you think you are out of dagger-swiping distance, killers like the Banshee can release an AOE attack that damages you and reveals your position.

6 Close Doors On The Killer

Another tool in your arsenal against the killer is closable doors and other moveable obstacles. Most buildings on any map will have doors or blockades which can be used to block off killers.

This forces the killer to either attack the obstacle twice to break it down or find a new way through altogether. If you time it just right, you can also stun the killers by closing doors in their faces, obscuring their vision, and shocking them in place.

5 Hide Around Corners

The perfect place to hide while disguised as a prop can be tough to find. You want to find someplace where you do not stand out, but also where you have a good line of sight to spy on the killer as they pass through the map.

Lurking around corners is a good way to hit this balance. Try to use whatever props are already available in that area to really merge with your environment.

4 Collect Coins To Unlock Tools

As you run, bounce, and hide through Propnight's maps, chances are you will see some huge floating gold coins with owl faces engraved on them. This is an in-game currency you can collect while playing as a survivor. Save up to 1000 coins, and you can unlock any of the purple and gold "coin chests" tucked away on a map.

Opening a chest unlocks a random tool to aid you in your escape, such as stamina boosts, invisibility buffs, and so on. You can collect coins by successfully repairing Propmachines, saving your friends from Hypnochairs, or scouting out random coins throughout the map.

3 Stick Close To Your Fellow Survivors

In general, teaming up with one or more of the other survivors can benefit you in the long run. With at least two people repairing a Propmachine at the same time, the repair "meter" runs up faster, allowing your team to speedrun through Propmachines.

The hard exception to this rule is for whenever you are playing against the Imposter, who can disguise themselves as both your fellow survivors and any prop. When facing off against the Imposter, it's probably better to play more separately to avoid any fatal accidental mix-ups.

2 Blend In With Your Surroundings

As tempting as it is to traverse the map, bonking around disguised as a giant kayak or suit of medieval armor, surviving as a prop will depend on your ability to blend in. When choosing a prop to disguise yourself as look for anything small and native to your immediate area.

You can also hold "shift" while disguised as a prop to straighten yourself up, i.e. restore your prop to its natural "resting" position. Just be aware that while you are holding shift, your prop will rotate in any direction you move your mouse in. You can also hold shift while moving as a prop to avoid bouncing around and making too much sound.

1 Collect Loot From Hypnochairs

Upon your third time thrown into a Hypnochair by the killer, you will permanently die. You and your teammate's deaths need not be in vain, however.

Sneakily stop by the scene of other survivors' demise to collect coins and even tools that your teammates may have dropped upon death. Collecting tools is essential to getting an advantage over the killer.
