PlayStation 4's 9.00 update went live earlier this week, giving the last-gen console a number of new features. However, despite clocking in at just 490.2MB, it seems to be causing a whole host of problems for some players.

From video streaming, online access, and even just booting up games, the 9.00 update may be causing more problems than it fixes, but Sony is yet to acknowledge these performance issues.

"It installed pretty quickly for me but holy shit was my console slow afterwards. Had to restart to even be able to play a game." says Siebe_13. Another user replies saying that the slow down means they are unable to watch TV and YouTube through their PS4 since the update. The web browser has also been hit, as a few users say they are unable to get any videos playing through that either.

While less frequent than complaints about video streaming, some are also saying the update is causing their consoles to crash. It appears that those experiencing the worst of it are on base PS4, rather than PS4 Pro. This has some in the replies accusing Sony of "forced obsolescence", but given the notorious difficulty of getting a PS5 through official channels (and therefore in a way Sony would actually profit from), many are sceptical of this claim.
