The PlayStation team released an official blogpost today, detailing the versatility of the PS5's 3D audio technology. From the DualSense wireless controller to the Pulse 3D wireless headset – Sony is gearing up to make the PlayStation 5 a full, immersive sensory experience.

The Pulse 3D headset is designed to fully utilize the PS5's new Tempest 3D AudioTech, capable of delivering highly accurate audio positioning and entrancing soundscapes. But for those who are dead-set on staying committed to an older pair of headphones, there shouldn't be much to worry about; the PS5's 3D audio technology can still be enjoyed.

This post was penned by senior marketing director Isabelle Tomatis, who emphasized the PS5's compatibility with older audio tech. "On the PS5, you’ll be able to experience 3D Audio with the headphones that many of you already own, either through USB connection to the console, or by plugging your headphones into the DualSense wireless controller’s 3.5mm headset jack." No matter the gear, Sony wants its fans to be able to hear how the PS5 is changing the audio game.

Even taking headsets out of the picture, Tomatis assured that the team is "working on virtual surround sound through speakers that are built into TVs." It's worth noting, however, that a virtual surround sound solution won't be available at launch in November. Nevertheless, Sony is definitely setting the bar high in the realm of audio.
