We’re less than a week away from the launch of the PlayStation 5, and we’re learning so much about the new console in the days leading up to release. For starters, you can see the PS5’s menu in the latest video, along with all the neat little beeps and boops it makes when you click around.
Another thing we’re learning about the PS5: it’s hot. Maybe not Xbox Series X levels of hot, but certainly too hot to operate effectively within the plexiglass confines of a Best Buy display case.
Twitter user @Xzyliac broke the news over on social media noting that the Xbox Series X is actually smaller than the PS5. And also that her Best Buy's PS5 display case wasn't working as intended, with the TV displaying the bad news to potential customers.
And in case you were wondering what an overheated PS5 says: "Your PS5 is too hot. Turn off your PS5, and wait until the temperature goes down."
We don't think this means that the PlayStation 5 is particularly hot (at least, not in comparison to any other PC or home console), but it does mean that ventilation should be considered if you plan on getting a PS5 on November 12.
Speaking of which, you can't get a PS5 by heading into a store on launch day. Sony made the announcement yesterday that due to surging COVID-19 cases in the United States and throughout the world, the PS5 will be launching online only. Pre-orders will still be honored, but any new purchases will have to be made on a retailer's website as they won't be selling them in-store.
This will hopefully prevent long lineups or people camping outside looking to get their hands on a PS5, but it's hard to keep avid gamers from their next-gen console. If you’re hell-bent on getting a PS5, please order it online and look up your local retailer’s policy regarding curbside pickup. Or just wait a day and have it delivered in the mail.
