PS5 pre-orders are opening up on September 10 and start at the somewhat outlandish price of £7,999... for a 24K gold edition of Sony's upcoming next-gen console.

That's not even the most expensive version, either. An 18K rose gold edition of the PS5 is priced at £8,099, while the Platinum variant costs £8,199. It's worth mentioning that those prices are for the digital PS5 - if you want a disc reader, you can add another £100 onto each figure.

As you can see, you'll need to put down another £649 if you want an extra gold controller to match your PS5, while a spare headset will run you yet another £399 on top of that. It's strange that the headset is the cheapest part when you consider that it's probably the most practical aspect of the entire range in terms of aesthetic value - if you wore it outside you could pretend it's a bejeweled set of headphones, although walking down the road with literal gold on your ears probably isn't the smartest thing to do.

The listing also notes that these are all limited edition pieces, and only 250 units will be manufactured for each model. Each console comes with two PS5 DualSense controllers - emblazoned in gold, obviously - as well as a 3D Pulse headset.

Pre-orders for the gold PS5 open this Thursday, September 10. Given that only 250 pieces of each finish are going to be made, you might want to put your offer in quick if you're after one.

Joking. Who on earth is going to spend eight grand on a PS5? Oh, it comes in a wooden box? With free shipping anywhere in the world, as well as free insurance? Alright, maybe I've changed my mind. Count me in.

What do you mean I broke it on purpose?
