Sony has finally unveiled the official price for the PS5 — the good news is that it isn't quite as expensive as the £7,999 rose gold PS5 being sold by luxury site Truly Exquisite.
The price and release date were revealed during tonight's PS5 showcase, which was announced by Sony earlier this week. It comes in the wake of Microsoft's Xbox Series X event from last week, during which it was confirmed that the Xbox Series X will launch on November 10 and cost $499. The Xbox Series S is due to be released the same day, but is significantly cheaper at just $299.

PS5 Release Date
According to tonight's event, the PS5 is due to release in the US, Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, and South Korea on November 12, and November 19 worldwide, meaning it will release two days after the Xbox Series X in some countries and nine days after it in others.
On that note, it's worth mentioning that the Xbox Series S — that being the small, $299 version of Microsoft's next-gen console — comes equipped with a more powerful CPU than the PS5. However, a technical producer from Remedy Entertainment recently spoke to the disparity between Xbox Series S and its more expensive next-gen counterparts, saying, "As a consumer I love this, as a technical producer I see trouble."

The PS5 price was also revealed this evening. The digital version costs $399.99 , while the version with a disc tray is $499.99.
In related news, a variety of developers have already spoken to the significance of the PS5's new features, excitedly noting that it's packing a lot of heat under the hood.
Metro developer 4A Games has already openly praised the PS5's implementation of next-gen ray tracing, while the Ratchet and Clank team at Insomniac has stated that its proprietary SSD is a "game changer" — it's actually what enables the game's titular rifts to function properly in the first place. On top of that, developers across the board appear to be completely enthralled by the PS5 audio tech.
The PS5 is due to launch on November 12 in select regions and November 19 worldwide. Again, it will set you back $399.99 or $499.99 for the digital and disc versions, respectively.
