Sony confirmed in a blog post last week that the PS5 camera will not be compatible with PSVR. PSVR players will need to connect their PS4 camera to the PS5 in order to play PSVR games.

To makes matters worse, the PS4 camera will not work natively with the PS5. Sony has promised to send out an adapter to all PSVR owners free of charge, but the details on that specific service have not been given yet. Suffice to say, don't expect to be able to play your PSVR games on your PS5 day one. You'll at least need to wait until you can get a hold of the special adapter from Sony, whenever that might be.

Once you do, you'll luckily be able to play nearly the entire lobby of PSVR games. The support page for the PS5 was updated last week to include a list of 11 PS4 games that will not be playable on the PS5. Of those 11, only two games are VR: Robinson: The Journey and DWVR. The other 100+ PSVR games will be playable on the PS5 day one.

All you'll need to play PSVR on the PS5 is a headset, a DualShock 4 controller or Move controllers, a PS4 camera, and of course, the camera adapter.

While some PSVR games can be played with a controller, such as Resident Evil 7 VR, the new DualSense controller cannot be used to play those games. Conversely, while the PS5 does support the DualShock 4 controller, you won't be able to use the DualShock Controller to play PS5 games.

It isn't the most convenient solution, but PS4 and PSVR players will be able to fully transfer over to the PS5 with very few exceptions — you'll just need to hang on to all of your PS4 accessories to make it work.

As far as PS5VR, Sony hasn't said definitively one way or the other if it's coming. Recently, PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan appeared in the PlayStation documentary From Bedroom To Billions and said that while VR is still unproven for Sony, the company is still "really intrigued" by where it could go. A recent patent also shows a design for a new PSVR controller, so a PSVR 2 may be coming sooner rather than later.
