Psychonauts 2's art director, Lisette Titre-Montgomery has revealed that Psychonauts 2 is now Double Fine's best-selling game.

Back when it launched in August 2021, critics and players quickly rallied around Psychonauts 2 as being one of Double Fine's best games yet, and a true contender for Game of the Year. Although it didn't get quite as far that year as games like It Takes Two, Psychonauts fans can have a little victory of their own because the beloved sequel is now Double Fine's biggest success.

Thanks to Lisette Titre-Montgomery, Psychonauts 2's art director, we now know that Psychonauts 2 is officially Double Fine's best-selling game, overtaking the original as the studio's biggest success. Titre-Montgomery announced the sales figure as part of a Tweet about her leaving Double Fine, saying, "April Fools Day was my last day at Double Fine. I have learned so much over the past 4 years+ about who I am as a leader and what it means to be a creative visionary. Thank you for trusting me to bring the world of Psychonauts 2 to life."

The post continued to say, "My leadership resulted in shipping Double Fine's highest-rated and best-selling game to date". Although this obviously lets us know that Psychonauts 2 is Double Fine's best-selling game, it also lets us know its minimum sales number. The original Psychonauts was originally Double Fine's best-selling game and has sold 1.7 million copies in the last sales update for the game, so if Psychonauts 2 is now the studio's biggest success, then we know it must have sold at least 1.7 million as well.

This is particularly interesting when you remember that Xbox doesn't really share Xbox games sales figures that much. It's not clear why that is, but it's interesting to note that Titre-Montgomery says "best-selling", which means that it's unclear whether or not Xbox Game Pass copies of the game are being considered here.

Titre-Montgomery also says that Psychonauts 2 was Double Fine's highest-rated game, which is something we've known about since the initial reviews of Psychonauts 2 dropped, with many critics, including us, claiming that the game was the new benchmark for Double Fine.
