We’ve all had bad first days, but it probably doesn’t compare to Razsputin’s first day as an official psychonaut, judging by Psychonaut 2’s official story trailer. Jumping through portals into other people’s minds to fight killer accountants all while trying to find a mole and defeat the world-ending terror of Maligula? No thanks, I quit.

But not Raz. As the latest psychonaut to join the team, Raz has to figure out just what is going on within his beloved organization. The leader of the psychonauts is missing and it’s all hands on deck to try to find him with the help of everyone from the previous game and even a few new faces too.

There’s not a lot else revealed in terms of story, but we do get a few looks at what might be Maligula thanks to one of Raz’s dreams--or should we say nightmares?

One of the new scenes that haven't been shown in previous trailers is Raz jumping into the mind of psychonaut janitor Ford Cruller. His head is apparently a storybook fable where Raz goes 2D in order to fit through some tight spaces, but his paper body becomes vulnerable to fire in this imaginary place.

Psychonauts 2 arrives on August 25 for both PC and Xbox, with a day one release on Xbox Game Pass too.

For those more into the Psychonauts 2 story than the gameplay, Double Fine has included an invincibility mode in the game’s accessibility options--a fantastic feature that allows gamers of all ages and abilities to experience Psychonauts 2’s story. Although some have called the feature a built-in cheat, Double Fine has come out in defense of this accessibility feature on Twitter: “If you beat Psychonauts 2 with the invincibility toggle on, you still beat P2.”
