If you regularly play multiplayer shooters, chances are there's probably a cheater in every other round you've played. It doesn't always have to be someone no-scoping you from miles away, or shooting through walls – there are also those who tweak things subtly in their favour, so as to not get caught and reported. Unfortunately, hackers seem to be able to get around any new technology that devs introduce.
However, it seems some of these developers have more luck with cheaters than others – PUBG Mobile dev Krafton, for instance. The game has been plagued by cheaters using the x-ray or wall-hack exploits. Things were getting so bad that the developer had to create a new anti-cheat tool just to combat this issue, Fog of War.
"The first of its kind in mobile gaming, Fog of War is an advanced anti-cheat system that limits the game information a player receives, reducing their ability to see players out of their field of view or through walls and objects,” said Krafton.
This technology scans the terrain in PUBG's maps and uses an algorithm to determine what players should and should not be able to see from their perspective. This helps in figuring out which of the players are using x-ray exploits. As of now, it's only been implemented in a small scale, but the developer says it has already seen a decrease in use of the by over 50 percent, and even 62 percent in certain sections.
“Cheating is completely unacceptable in PUBG Mobile, and this is yet another step towards stopping players from using deceitful and unfair technology,” said Krafton. “Nothing is more important to PUBG Mobile than ensuring players have a safe, fun and fair experience.”
Krafton recently revealed an Unreal Engine 5 concept trailer for its upcoming fantasy RPG which is based on the acclaimed Korean novel, The Bird That Drinks Tears by Yeongdo Lee. The game is clearly in its early stages of development, as it doesn't even have an official name. As of now it has a working title, Project Windless, and no launch window has been specified by the developer.
