A couple weeks ago, the PC version of PUBG got its 8.3 update which brought a ton of new stuff to the battle royale game. Stuff like ferries in Erangel, which give players an alternate route to the southern island without needing to cross a dangerous bridge. The Jammer pack was also added, which basically gives PUBG the equivalent of Warzone’s gas mask by preventing damage when the player is caught out in the bluezone.

You can check out our previous coverage to know what those are all about. Just know that the console version of update 8.3 is now live for PS4, Xbox One, and Google Stadia, so both those things are now in the game. But there’s a few other things that console players can enjoy in the latest update, so we’ll go over those today.

PUBG Jammer Pack

Starting with Arena Mode. This has proven to be a hugely popular game mode, so PUBG has decided to keep it around until October 8. In Arena Mode, 16 squads totaling 64 players are pitted against each other in sectioned-off areas of Erangel, Miramar, or Sanhok. Each squad will be up against only one or two other squads in a fight to the death in these walled-off arenas. The last team standing wins and moves on to the next arena. When there are only two or three squads left, they’re all placed in the same arena for a sudden death, winner takes all last match.

Unlike in regular PUBG matches, there’s no scrounging for weapons in Arena Mode. Instead, players purchase their gear at the beginning of the match through the loadout menu. Also, each squad has three lives and is only eliminated after their third loss.

In addition to performance optimization and bug fixes, update 8.3 adds a new Assist System that will provide players with credit for helping other players get killing blows. Teammate combat indicators will hopefully let you know when a friend is in trouble, and bot improvements will hopefully make it less obvious when you're fighting an AI-controlled avatar and not another human being.

Floppy Costumes

Also, new cosmetics have been added. The Chuseok Lunar sale brings the Battle Bunny Set and the Floptop set, both of which sort of make you look like an S&M bunny girl that prefers either denim or leather. Cult Classics weapon pack returns to improve your helmet, AKM, SKS, or Beryl M762, and a whole host of Halloween costumes will go on sale starting October 7 that will make you look like a killer mime, a deadly goalie or a well-dressed zombie.

One other thing: Google Stadia players will note that the mouse & keyboard queue is shutting down as of October 6. PUBG Corp has done this to preserve queue times on Stadia and because most players use controllers there anyway. So if you’re a Stadia player that prefers mouse & keyboard, it might be time to move back to PC.
