PUBG’s latest update provides a brand new weapon, changes the way vehicles take damage, and re-enables the Parachute Follow feature.

Welcome back to PUBG, the battle royale game that made battle royale games cool. After a successful free weekend earlier this June, PUBG now has a brand new update that adds some quality of life improvements and some new gameplay mechanics that veterans will need to watch out for.

But first, let’s start with the biggest news: PUBG now has C4 plastique explosives. However, PUBG’s C4 is not like Call of Duty’s C4. It’s not as snappy and it doesn’t explode right away. PUBG’s take on C4 is for it to be more like an area-denial tool thanks to a 25m-radius explosion that’ll take down anyone caught in the blast. According to the trailer, that explosion will go through walls (even though it should honestly level the entire building), so campers had better keep an ear out for that beeping sound.

Vehicles are getting a big change in update 7.3. Most vehicles will now take reduced damage when struck on the sides or the roof, while the engine bay will still take maximum damage. Shoots to the roof will now hit for 50% damage, while shots to the sides strike for 75% damage. Also, vehicles no longer explode immediately upon running out of health. Instead, the engine will die before catching fire which gives occupants a few key seconds to bail out. After that, the vehicle explodes and kills everyone still inside.

Boats also have more armor so they're less of a death trap, while spike strips are now 50% longer to be more effective at stopping cars and vans.

Parachute follow mode has been re-enabled after being disabled due to it not working at all upon first being released. This should allow team members to press a button and automatically follow the leader as they descend. PUBG promises us that they’ve got it right this time, but we’ll have to play a game or two to find out.

Finally, the Esports menu has been updated in preparation for PCS 1, the upcoming online PUBG event that decides each region's best PUBG teams. The 2020 PCS 1 event will also see the return of the Pick'em Challenge, allowing players to bet on which team will win for exclusive prizes.

You can read more on the official patch notes or check out the trailer above. Update 7.3 is live on PCs and will arrive on consoles June 23.
