At long last, Tetris and Puyo Puyo fans on PC can finally experience the glory that is Puyo Puyo Tetris 2. While essentially a refined version of the previously released Puyo Puyo Tetris, this second offering adds some new features, brings some extra modes, and even includes a cameo appearance by Sega mascot Sonic the Hedgehog. It's the definitive puzzle game experience! You can currently nab it on Steam for $29.99 and even get yourself some item cards for doing so within the first week.
The title released last December on current and last-generation consoles and was met with a very warm reception. Reviewers noted the similarities to the original, but it was hard to top the near-perfection that was the first game. The mash-up of these classic puzzle titles felt so natural that I imagine the developers struggled to figure out what else to bring to the table.
Once you get past the menu, however, you'll find that Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 does a few neat things with its gameplay. The biggest addition is that of a team-based mode for the campaign. Not every challenge features this, but you can assemble a team of three from the cast of 40 to battle with you against larger bosses. This extends into multiplayer, which has a "Boss Raid" mode for up to three players.
In fact, this belated PC port includes all of the post-launch content that was added to Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 over the last few months. That includes an additional 10 characters, the aforementioned multiplayer mode, and some extra background music. All in all, you should be pleased with what is on offer should you choose to grab this.
