QuakeCon 2021's recently released schedule appears to have let slip that a Quake remaster announcement will be a part of the event next week.

QuakeCon 2021 is almost upon us and the hype got cranked up a notch this week thanks to the reveal of the weekend's schedule. As always, the weekend will be jam-packed with presentations and events, some of which will revolve around series other than Quake. The schedule includes shows about Deathloop, The Elder Scrolls, Doom Eternal, and more.

Since this year marks 25 years since Quake first launched, fans of the series and those tuning in next weekend can probably expect the event to be a little more special this year. In fact, the event's schedule may have let slip one very big reason why QuakeCon will be bigger than usual this year. A short paragraph that appears to hint at a Quake remaster announcement.

XboxEra noticed the additional information, and its prompt removal, once someone realized it was there, lends further credence to the belief that there is a big Quake announcement coming. Before it was removed, the description read, “The pair will also discuss the additional content MachineGames have contributed to this revitalized edition.” The pair referenced here are John Linneman from Digital Foundry and Jerk Gustafsson of MachineGames.

Other than it marking 25 years since the arrival of the first Quake, this year's QuakeCon will potentially be bigger than ever for another reason. It marks the first event since 2019. 2020's QuakeCon was canceled thanks to the pandemic. Next week's event might be all-digital, but that doesn't mean Quake fans won't be treated to something pretty special.

It will be interesting to see what exactly Quake's revitalized edition is made up of. MachineGames and ID may follow in the footsteps of other studios and bundle older games together in a remastered trilogy. Or in this instance, perhaps even a remastered quadrilogy. Crash did it, Mass Effect did it, and according to some pretty solid reports this week Grand Theft Auto is about to do it too.
