Quantic Dream has established itself with cinematic, story-driven games like Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls, and Detroit: Become Human, but none of them are what might call action-packed. That's not going to be the case with Star Wars Eclipse, which Quantic describes as being an "action-adventure" game.

Speaking to IGN Japan at Tokyo Game Show, Quantic CEO Guillaume de Fondaumiere laid out how Star Wars Eclipse will differ from Quantic's previous titles.

"I think with each new title we try to innovate, we try to explore new ground," he explained. "With Star Wars Eclipse we're certainly going to keep the fundamental elements of a Quantic Dream game; very strong story, very strong characters, multiple playable characters, and of course, giving the players the possibility to change, through their actions and decisions, how the story unfolds.

"Where the formula is changing, we said very clearly we are doing an action-adventure, so the action elements are also going to be very important," he added. "This is something we'll be able to speak about in the future, but keep in mind, it's an action-adventure."

Star Wars Eclipse will take place during the height of the Galactic Republic and while the Jedi Order was at its peak in terms of power. The cinematic trailer revealed at last year's Game Awards showed various factions, Jedi engaged in duels, armies on the march, and the rise of a strange humanoid creature from within black muck. It all ended with an eclipse, perhaps symbolizing the sudden rise of darkness during an especially bright era.

However, Quantic Dream is reportedly facing difficulty getting Star Wars Eclipse off the ground. That cinematic trailer wasn't just to announce the game but also that Quantic Dream is hiring for people to work on one of the biggest and most prestigious IPs out there, but Quantic Dream's reputation for having a toxic work environment has led to fewer applications than the French studio had hoped.
