The Adventure Guild recently announced its first new game project creating its flagship game Quest RPG. Queens is a competitive hide-and-seek card game that is currently scheduled for a 2021 release.

The Adventure Guild dropped a huge announcement back in November this year regarding its future Kickstarter campaigns. Two are scheduled for 2021, seeking to secure funding for four new products for the Quest RPG. Nothing was mentioned in that announcement about an incoming new card game, so Queens comes as a pleasant surprise for Adventure Guild fans.

The Queens announcement was posted on The Adventure Guild’s Medium blog, and there’s a Queens dedicated website with more info, as well. According to the announcement, “Queens is a competitive guessing game for 2–4 players where rival armies clash in a bitter battle of attrition. Each army fights until their numbers grow thin, exposing their Queen to danger. When a Queen is revealed, they are conquered, and the last Queen standing wins.”

Queens will support two to four players, with each player controlling a 50-card deck. Each player lays out a suite of cards face down in a three by three grid, thus “fielding” their army. More cards are drawn and kept in hand to act as replacement troops and to conduct special moves. Then, in a seemingly similar fashion to the classic Stratego, players choose an opponent’s card on the field to reveal. After each player has a card revealed in their army, “the player with the most powerful card revealed on their field wins the round.” This is repeated each round and as each player’s card supply dwindles, their Queen card gets closer to being revealed, causing that player to lose the game. The final player with their Queen safely in their hand wins.

Also like Stratego, Queens has a very simply playing mechanic, but subtly holds a variety of different strategies that can be used to win. Special cards will be available with varying abilities that trigger when the card is revealed, or can be played directly from a player’s hand. The developers state that each game of Queens will require players to make ample use of deduction, memory recall, strategy, and luck in order to win the game.

The announcement also states that Queens is currently in playtesting, and an announcement will be made soon seeking more people to join the playtest group. The devs expect to “wrap up playtesting in early 2021 and then move quickly to manufacturing,” and there’s a planned Kickstarter campaign to help fund Queens’ creation.
