Fans of Ubisoft's tactical shooter Rainbow Six Siege are about to get a mode that's a little less...realistic. Just in time for Halloween, Ubisoft will be holding the "Doktor's Curse" event. The event will run for two weeks starting today and ending on November 6, 2019. Along with adorning maps with various forms of spooky memorabilia, the brand new "Monster Hunt" game type will be playable.

Monster Hunt is a variation on Siege's standard 5-vs.-5 game mode where a group of hunters will face off against monsters in an attempt to survive each round. The hunters will be comprised of five different Sledges (one of Siege's characters) wielding three unique hammers to smack their foes with. Some exclusive gadgets will also be in play, such as the Eyenox Model III, the Heartbeat Sensor, and the EE-ONE-D.

On the other team, the monsters will have no weapons and will need to rely on traps and unique abilities to keep the hunters at bay. Players will be able to choose from Lesion, Frost, Kapkan, Smoke, and Ela, and will be able to conjure temporary invisibility to escape their assailants. Each of the characters will have event-exclusive skins that give them a spooky look (as well as returning 2018's Halloween skins for purchase).

As for the regular Siege experience, a scary version of the "Theme Park" map will be playable during the event's duration. Ubisoft describes it as a "Frankenstein version" of the map and notes that the titular Doc will be performing evil experiments in the background. This map will show up in playlists as you're playing different matches.

During the event, players with a Uplay account will be able to complete new Ubisoft Club challenges that will give them access to some Halloween themed items. 28 packs are up for sale and players can earn one for achieving 20 kills on the "Doktor's Curse" map, for winning 13 rounds in the "Doktor's Curse" playlist, and for participating in the event. Players can also opt to buy the "Doktor's Curse" pack for 300 R6 credits/12,500 Renown.

Despite not liking how Ubisoft has turned the "Tom Clancy" name into a farce, this event does sound like a lot of fun. It's nice to see that Ubisoft is willing to experiment a little with its established brands, even if Rainbow Six wouldn't be my first thought. Now we'll just need to see what nonsense Ghost Recon Breakpoint gets into.
