Ever since their debut over a decade ago, Rabbids have come to be known as the Minions of the gaming world. Their silly slapstick antics and hilarious, cartoonish voices complete the charm that has made them successful to this day. Now, the Rabbids are getting a movie of their own after years of appearances in different video games.

Thanks to a collaboration with film production company Lionsgate, the Rabbids are now getting their own film adaptation. It had taken a while to come to an agreement between associated parties, but what is known is that there are currently sparse details on the film.

Further, GoNintendo revealed a few details about the upcoming Rabbids movie. First off, the film is a live-action hybrid film, suggesting that the movie will be handled in a very similar way to the Sonic the Hedgehog film where human actors star opposite the computer-generated Rabbid characters.

Second, the producers include David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman. Other producers include Jason Altman and Margaret Boykin.

Although not set to direct, some are currently eyeing Isn't It Romantic director Todd Strauss-Schulson for the position of director. Finally, Alex Young will be an executive producer on the project.

All in all, it's hard to tell if the project will be a success, but we can certainly hope. The Minions film did alright without the help of stars from Despicable Me, so there is a level of confidence that a Rabbids film would settle with audiences. Hopefully, the crew involved is talented enough to make a decent Rabbids film.

Theoretically, a Rabbids adaptation would do well with audiences if films like Minions is any indication. Many gamers much enjoy their charming antics, so it's almost a given that many longtime players would enjoy a Rabbids movie.

As for new Rabbids games, there have yet to be any revealed ones for a while. One of the last standouts was Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle. The game was a definite hit - and a challenging one at that. However, beyond that and the upcoming Rabbids movie, there have yet to be any games featuring the quirky rabbit creatures. Hopefully, the movie will buck the general trend of video game movies being bad, which has since been bucked by Detective Pikachu.
