The upcoming Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne HD Remaster will have differences in various regions, as Gouto and Raidou Kuzunoha will be omitted from the Chinese and Korean versions of the game.

Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne was originally released for the PlayStation 2 in 2003. The game received two additional versions in Japan that added new content. The first variant added Dante from the Devil May Cry series as a boss & recruitable ally, while the second variant replaced Dante with Raidou Kuzunoha, who was the star of his own series of games. The Dante version was the one that was localized in the west, with his presence splattered all over the cover of the box, creating the famous "Featuring Dante from the Devil May Cry series" meme. It was revealed during the last Nintendo Mini Direct that an HD remaster of Nocturne was coming to the Switch, which is based on the Raidou Kuzunoha version of the game.

The Chinese and Korean versions of Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne HD Remaster won't include Raidou Kuzunoha or his sidekick, Gouto the cat. Raidou is a silent protagonist, so Gouto usually talks in his stead. This news comes from Persona Centralas the Chinese & Korean websites for the game mention the change in their character sections.

No reason was given for the change, but it could be due to references to Japanese imperialism, which also resulted in the Rising Sun imagery being removed from Ryuji's shoes in some versions of Persona 5.

It's unclear how these versions of the game will work without Raidou. It's possible that Dante will be appearing in Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne HD Remaster and that Atlus just hasn't announced his presence yet. The player might be able to choose between Dante and Raidou in all but the Chinese/Korean versions of the game, where they would be forced to pick Raidou. It's also possible that the Raidou battles will just be scrubbed from those versions of the game without replacement.
