Despite rumors, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Quarantine is not being renamed Rainbow Six Parasite. Ubisoft has confirmed that although the name is being used for internal playtesting, it’s simply a placeholder. The studio has also said that an official name will be unveiled “soon.”
A few days ago, several key art images with the Rainbow Six Parasite logo were posted on the PlayStation Network. The main image showed Ela, one of the confirmed characters, covered in black goo with the name Rainbow Six Parasite printed on a bright yellow background.
In a statement to PCGamesN, Ubisoft said, “While we recently shared that we will be changing the name of Rainbow Six Quarantine, ‘Parasite’ is only a placeholder that our internal teams use. Recently, we ran an internal test for the game and some of its details became public. We can confirm this is a glimpse of the upcoming game, and we will share more details, including the official name, soon.”
Ubisoft revealed during a recent financial earnings report that it was “evaluating” a new name for the forthcoming three-player, tactical co-op shooter set several years in the future of the Rainbow Six Universe. The game, which is currently being developed by a new team at Ubisoft Montreal, will be renamed to avoid any connotation with the COVID-19 pandemic.
The new game follows 2015’s Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege, an online tactical shooter that was released worldwide for Microsoft Windows, PS4, and Xbox One on December 1, 2015, and for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S exactly on December 1, 2020. The new entry is scheduled to be released in 2021.
Six Siege focuses on counterterrorism and cooperation between players. Players take control of an attacker or a defender in different gameplay modes in which they may rescue a hostage, defuse a bomb, or assume control of an objective in a room. The new game has players facing off against a new breed of mutated alien parasite, which poses a lethal threat to humans and their environment.
