Earlier this month, Ubisoft announced that Rainbow Six Siege was getting a brand-new operator, its first ever transgender character. This was something that narrative writer Simon Ducharme told GameSpot that they were "incredibly proud of," going as far as to say that they had "tears of joy" writing a queer character.

However, Osa - the new operator - has caught flack online for supposedly not looking trans enough. Twitch streamer BirdTickler who worked as a consultant for Osa's design alongside two others simply stated, "[I'm] slamming the "shut the fuck up, she looks like me, and I worked on her" button."

This was in response to a tweet that said, "I hate [Osa's] design. She looks like a GTA 5 character, a parody - a caricature. This is probably how billion dollar companies see us trans folk." However, Osa's character was, as BirdTickler said, designed by three trans consultants and a Ubisoft writer who is "also trans."

"[I'm] getting a little sick of this one, lads!" BirdTickler added, "Have you people ever seen a woman? Is everything okay with you? Have you been outside? Hung around with queer people? This hairstyle and dress sense is not uncommon

"I keep seeing, "Wow, Osa looks masculine and weird" from trans femmes and iunno pals. Maybe examine that reaction a bit? I really think if we hadn't told you that she's trans, you wouldn't have had that reaction.

As for how Osa was developed, BirdTickler revealed that it was always intended for her to be trans, so much so that they were brought on as a consultant "bloody ages ago." Osa hasn't been changed and, in BirdTickler's own words, "was not a quick grab" - Ubisoft didn't rush to make Osa in "a month."
