The guns in RDR2 are numerous. These range from throwing knives to high powered rifles. Acquiring some of these weapons will be difficult but they are essential to making sure you can tackle some of the tougher enemies in the game. If you are going to brave the Wild West, follow this list of the 10 Best Guns in Red Dead Redemption 2 to make sure you have the best gear at hand.

Updated on October 9th, 2020 by Josh Davison: Red Dead Redemption 2 is still capturing the collective imagination of gamers everywhere with its immersive story, expansive world, and compelling online gameplay. Many repeat players are constantly returning to the game to experience the world, and many new players are picking it up for the first time. Both varieties of players could use a hand in discerning which guns are best suited to taking on the outlaws and predators that live throughout the world of RDR 2. There are many different types of guns throughout the game, so we've added an additional five guns worth picking up.

14 Bolt-Action Rifle

RDR2 Arthur With Bolt-Action Rifle

The Bolt-Action Rifle is a strong, long-ranged rifle that deals a decent amount of damage from afar. Being a bolt-action, its fire rate is very slow, but it makes up for it with accuracy power. There are arguably better alternatives to the Bolt-Action, but it is easily among the best when dealing with several foes from a distance.

The main way for Arthur Morgan to obtain the Bolt-Action Rifle is during the mission, "Preaching Forgiveness as He Went." You can also purchase the gun at weapon shops after this mission if you lose it somehow.

13 Double-Action Revolver

RDR 2 Double-Action Revolver

There are better pistols in terms of power and fire-rate than the Double-Action Revolver, but no other revolvers fire as quickly — and it's hard to feel like a cowboy if you don't have a revolver. That leaves the Double-Action Revolver as the best choice if you're a cowboy with an itchy trigger-finger.

The gun is available for purchase after the "A Strange Kindness" story mission, though you can also snag one during a robbery mission with Sean MacGuire around the same time.

12 Micah's Revolver

RDR2 Micah's Revolver

Micah's Revolver is actually a comparable alternative to the Double-Action Revolver with some personalization courtesy of its previous owner. This one edges out the regular Double-Action just based on its great aesthetic appeal plus its story-relevance.

This one is a little tricky to get. It can be acquired at the very end of the story, but it can be snagged by getting an O'Driscoll to steal Micah's gun during "Old Friends" or forcing Micah to drop his gun by shooting an arrow at his foot while he sits in the Strawberry jail before the "Blessed are the Meek?" mission. Both of these methods are more-or-less tricking the game, but the gun is a great acquisition.

11 Pump-Action Shotgun

RDR2 Pump-Action Shotgun

The Pump-Action Shotgun pales in comparison for many people when compared to the Repeating Shotgun or the Double-Barrel offering, but there is something undeniably satisfying about that pump-action punctuating every shotgun blast. That said, it does cut down severely on the fire-rate. Regardless, it's still a shotgun in a videogame, so it's completely devastating at close-range.

Arthur Morgan can buy this one off of gunsmiths after the "Pouring Forth Oil" mission, and it can also be stolen from the house of Chaz Porter near Valentine.

10 Rare Rolling Block Rifle

RDR2 Rare Rolling Block Rifle

The Rolling Block Rifle generally comes up very short when compared to other sniper rifle offerings in Red Dead Redemption 2, but there is a better alternative that gives this gun a leg up. The Rare Rolling Block Rifle improves on the original with some impressive carvings and outright power.

This one can be stolen off a dead bounty hunter that tried to snuff out Josiah Trelawny after the "Magicians for Sport" mission at Braithwaite Manor.

9 Schofield Revolver

The Schofield Revolver is no joke as far as revolvers go, and though it doesn't have the greatest aim, it more than makes up for it with power and accessibility. This gun can be unlocked relatively early in the game and is cheap at only $84, making it a necessity for any aspiring outlaw. You can also upgrade it for even more power. Upgrades can make this revolver a great option, even when moving into late game territory.

8 Carcano Rifle

Snipers are hit and miss in Red Dead Redemption 2 (pun absolutely intended). Good ones are hard to come by and even then, their usability requires very specific circumstances. You certainly don't want to get caught in a close-quarters standoff with one. That said, as far as sheer power goes, the Carcano Rifle can't be beaten. It is incredibly accurate and has enough force to take down anything in the game.

7 Algernon's Revolver

If rate-of-fire is something you value when it comes to choosing your weapon, look no further than Algernon's Revolver. This rare and unique gun has one of the best firing rates of any revolver in the game. It's a great gun and a beauty as well (although that's less important than firepower, of course). This gun can only be unlocked in chapter 4 after completing the Duchess and Other Animals challenge.

6 Midnight's Pistol

Another great option for beginners is Midnight's Pistol. This gun is relatively easy to earn and packs a wallop compared to other starting weapons (but not too much for a beginner to handle, of course).

All you need to do to acquire this gorgeous gold-plated pistol is to complete the Gunslingers side quest. Kill Bill Midnight and the gun is all yours.

5 Volcanic Pistol

The Volcanic Pistol does more damage than any other pistol in the game, making it very desirable - for obvious reasons. It also has a high rate-of-fire and solid reload times. For just $150, this is also a very affordable option and therefore a great option for newer players. It's also a great throw-back to the first game with better stats so we can't recommend it enough - even if it's not quite good enough to earn that number one spot.

4 Sawed-Off Shotgun

Alone, this gun is just okay. It only holds two shells and it's very inaccurate, but still packs a punch at close range. What makes it even more deadly (and worthy of this spot in the ranking) is that it is possible for a player to dual wield with it.

With one of these bad boys in each hand, you are sure to do some major damage. You can also pair it with some of the other guns on this list for maximum lethality.

3 Repeating Shotgun

via reddead.wikia

Though dual-wielding sawed-off shotguns is fun, the best shotgun you can get is actually the Repeating Shotgun. As far as sheer damage goes, this is gun is a beast. You will also find decent accuracy here and the ability to carry up to 6 slugs at one time. It has a hefty price tag but if you can afford it, the Repeating Shotgun is sure to strike fear in the hearts of your enemies.

2 Semi-Automatic Pistol

With a hefty 16 bullet clip and a great firing rate, the Semi-Auto Pistol is one of the best guns Red Dead Redemption 2 has to offer. Its power is evenly balanced with its functionality and it can be dual-wielded for some serious devastation. You will love the speed of this pistol and though it may seem pricey, it is certainly worth the purchase price.

1 Litchfield Repeater

RDR 2 Litchfield Rifle
via the GTA base

While not the fastest or most accurate gun in the game, the Litchfield Rifle has a devastating amount of power and speedy firing rate. Many consider this gun to be the best repeater in the game and it is definitely a must-purchase. It features a great balance of stats that will be helpful in almost all situations in the game. If you are looking for an all-around great gun, look no further than the Litchfield Rifle.

These are some of the best guns that Red Dead Redemption 2 has to offer. In the end, however, every cowboy is different. Luckily there is so much weapon variety featured in the game, you are sure to find something that will match your specific playstyle. Happy hunting!
