An organization devoted to offering treatment to those diagnosed with rare genetic disorders, Cure Rare Disease (CRD), has announced a forthcoming charity Fortnite tournament. The event, organized in collaboration with Massachusetts DECA, is set for September 5 with all proceeds benefiting CRD.

While there is no fee for entry, there is a suggested donation of $10. The competition has a prize pool of $1,000 along with other prizes that have yet to be announced, with the format of the tournament being a solo competition.

CRD, which has long been leaders in the arena of customized therapeutics for rare, genetic diseases, is now applying their innovative spirit to their fundraising efforts. DECA, previously called Distributive Education Clubs of America, is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is centered on preparing students for leadership in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management. By combining their efforts, CRD and Massachusetts' DECA are hoping to engage with DECA's national network of highschoolers to bring CRD's efforts to the attention of a whole new demographic.

By utilizing Twitch and social media, the upcoming Fortnite tournament is expected to draw more than 1,500 viewers. Besides participating in the tournament, there are other ways to get involved with the event. Spectators streaming the competition via Twitch will be able to participate in raffles and giveaways. There is also the opportunity to become a sponsor for the event.

Current big-name sponsors for the tournament include Matcherino, Thunder Studios, and HyperX. Matcherino is a company established to facilitate esports organizations, competitions, and prize pools, while Thunder Studios is a production company with a division devoted to gaming that handles the logistics of tournament events. HyperX, of course, is one of the biggest names in gaming headsets, keyboards, and more. With such established organizations on board, it seems that CRD is well on its way to hosting a successful charity event that will hopefully help them reach their target fundraising goals so they can continue their efforts towards fighting to treat rare diseases.

As pro gaming continues to garner public attention, more and more opportunities for philanthropy continue to arise. From the NHL announcing a $200,000 charity Fortnite tournament to the continued fundraising endeavors of organizations such as Gamers Without Borders, the amount of good that gamers are capable of is becoming more apparent.
