There's nothing quite like a collector's edition for a game. With every major release, there are always people who are either dedicated fans of the series or those who are just so excited that they want to get their hands on every piece of content those games have to offer. Seeing the potential profit behind those types of customers, many studios come out with special editions or collector's editions. These editions most often include the game and usually any extra DLC or season pass on top of some interesting collectible in the form of a statue or an exclusive clothing item.

However, collector's editions have only become grander as time has gone on. Knowing that people will still go the extra mile and pay an extra $100 to get an exclusive mask from Titanfall 2, there are now massive special editions that cost a few hundred dollars. Because of how much production value goes into those editions, there are quite a few of them out in the wild, leading them to only become more expensive as time goes on.

The way these collector's editions are handled, only dedicated fans or intense scalpers get their hands on them. At that point, you'd be lucky to find them being sold online for anywhere near retail value. While that may be a bit hyperbolic, there's no denying that collector's editions for video games can get pricey and rare.

Here are 30 of the rarest collector's editions ever made and how much they're worth. Good luck saving your pennies.

25 The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Collector's Edition

via amazon.com

When The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim came out, most players were completely enamored with its setting, characters, and plentiful side quests. Bethesda knew that many were excited to play the game, and had a beefy Collector's Edition to match. Unfortunately, that Collector's Edition is no longer being made, which means that Skyrim fans will have to spend at least $350 to even hope to have one of their own. Some of the components of the collector's edition are being sold independently as well, but they quickly approach the $100 range- much more than getting the game.

24 Assassin's Creed 2 Master Assassin Edition

via redbull.com

The Master Edition for Assassin's Creed 2 brought together some cool artwork, exclusive maps, and an impressive figure of Ezio Auditore himself. However, the edition was made solely for fans of the Assassin's Creed series, as it had a steep asking price. Nowadays, getting one will run people upwards of $350. Keep in mind that Assassin's Creed 2 is now a very inexpensive game, with Ubisoft having continued the series far beyond that release. Players who want this one will have to lock down a good deal.

23 Hyrule Warriors Collector's Edition

via otakustudy.com

A blend of The Legend of Zelda and Dynasty Warriors proved to be an excellent idea in the form of Hyrule Warriors. Zelda fans were excited when this game was releasing on the Wii U. Nintendo celebrated by having a handful of collector's editions that came with the game and Link's scarf. It wasn't too expensive when it came out, but the sheer rarity of this edition made it quickly skyrocket in price. This game can easily run over $1000 on eBay.

22 The Beatles Rock Band Limited Edition

via worthpoint.com

Rock Band was a massive craze during the days of the Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii. It became a no-brainer for a version of the game featuring the Beatles to come out. However, there was also a limited edition version of the game and its instruments. It came with all the same songs, but the instruments themselves were modeled after the instruments that the band members used. Dedicated fans of the Beatles surely went crazy over this one. Nowadays, you'd be lucky to find one for sale below $700.

21 The Last of Us Post Pandemic Edition

via geek.com

The Last of Us was one of the best games released last console generation. Naughty Dog proved, once again, that they know how to design a game. However, it wasn't just the disc that got released. There was the "The Last of Us Post Pandemic Edition" that included a statue of the game's main characters: Joel and Ellie. With the game held in such high regard, it was only a matter of time before this version became rare and expensive. Most copies are selling for at least $1000.

20 Dark Souls 3 Prestige Edition

via neogaf.com

The Prestige Edition of Dark Souls 3 was only for the ultimate masochist. With the Souls series becoming increasingly popular and the third entry being a cap for the whole story, this edition had all the right stuff included. It had a gorgeous exclusive case, two well-crafted statues of characters in the game, a full soundtrack, and an art book that included content from the entire trilogy. If you're a hardcore Souls fan and want to get your hands on it, you'd better have around $1300 lying around.

19 Uncharted 2: Among Thieves Fortune Hunter Edition

via kotaku.com

Uncharted was Naughty Dog's next big franchise after moving on from Jak and Daxter. With the initial game's sequel, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, Naughty Dog decided to have the Fortune Hunter Edition that came with a collectible, extra content, and a case signed by the developers. This version wasn't purchasable regularly, though. It could only be won in a contest. Because of this, buying a copy of the Fortune Hunter Edition costs close to $5000, at least. If you're desperate for some Uncharted merch, this probably isn't the smartest way to go.

18 Dying Light My Apocalypse Edition

via polygon.com

With the release of Dying Light, the developers went all out. Instead of stopping with a standard collector's edition, the developers came up with the My Apocalypse Edition. Costing close to $400,000, this version of the game included tons of crazy stuff. It had a custom shelter that would be built, parkour training, a life-sized statue of one of the game's enemies, and a few more extra goodies. It even came with four copies of the game that were all signed by the staff. Due to the perishability of some of these bonuses, you can't buy the My Apocalypse Edition anymore. Only one was ever made.

17 Saints Row IV Super Dangerous Wad Wad Edition

via theverge.com

Saints Row IV takes the cake for the most insane collector's edition for any video game in history. Instead of settling with even an expensive $400 version, Saints Row IV had the Super Dangerous Wad Wad Edition which retailed for $1 million. Only one copy of this version exists and gave players two new cars (one of which being a Lamborghini), life-sized replicas, a stay at a fancy hotel, and so much more. It's easily the rarest and most expensive collector's edition out there.

16 Middle-Earth: Shadow Of War Mithril Edition

via gamestop.com

If there's one thing that will remain true, it's that people who love The Lord of the Rings love every detail about Middle-Earth. That's essentially what was offered with the Middle-Earth: Shadow of War Mithril Edition. It had all sorts of goodies and a massive statue featuring the game's creatures. However, getting one's hands on this version would set people back at least $300. Considering you can get a copy of the game for $10-$20, it's a hard sell for most.

15 Assassin's Creed Origins Dawn Of The Creed

via amazon.com

When Ubisoft first unveiled Assassin's Creed Origins, they also featured a Dawn of the Creed Edition that would include a statue of the main character, a special steelbook, DLC, and several other goodies as well. However, it was released for a total of $800. People can buy it a couple hundred dollars cheaper nowadays, but the sheer scale of this version meant that not a whole lot were ever made. Seeing one in person is rare, but buying one? Forget about it.

14 Resident Evil 6 Premium Edition

Via: Fanpop

Resident Evil is one of the biggest names in horror video games, and Konami decided to capitalize on that in Japan with the Premium Edition for Resident Evil 6. The game included a leather jacket replica of Leon's so that players could look the part. The Premium Edition was priced at over $1000 though and was only available in Japan, so good luck trying to get your hands on that. If you're seriously interested in having Leon's jacket, it wouldn't be too hard to find other third-party replicas for around $100 these days.

13 Grid 2 BAC Mono Edition

via gotgame.com

Grid 2 was a big racing game when it came out a few years ago, but it was taken a step further with the BAC Mono Edition. This version of the game cost almost $200,000, but it came with a street-legal race car and a suit to wear while driving it. It also had a game and a PS3 to boot, but that wasn't the big selling point. Due to the craziness of including a car with the full game, only one of the BAC Mono Editions ever existed.

12 Final Fantasy XV Ultimate Collector's Edition

via amazon.com

Final Fantasy XV was a game many years in the making. When Square finally delivered on the product, they did so in a big way with the Ultimate Collector's Edition. Priced on Square's own store at $270, it included the game, the companion film, a big statue of Noctis, and several other goodies (surprisingly not the season pass, though). You can still buy it today, but prices have gone up close to the $400 mark. Furthermore, with newer editions of the game actually giving the players the extra DLC, is it truly worth it?

11 Halo 5 Guardians Collector's Edition

via gamestop.com

The continuation of Halo after Bungie's departure left everyone in a state of awe. With the jump to the Xbox One came the release of Halo 5: Guardians, which also got its own collector's edition. This version contained a statue of Master Chief and Spartan Locke, an exclusive steel case, but only a digital copy of the game. Nowadays, you can get this version for around $150, which is cheap as far as this list is concerned. Who knows what Halo Infinite's collector's edition will contain.

10 Borderlands: The Handsome Collection Claptrap-In-A-Box Edition

via dualshockers.com

Borderlands was always a unique and interesting series, and it was finally being properly celebrated with Borderlands: The Handsome Collection. However, there is a version that comes with a fully remote-controlled Claptrap that will set people back around $500. It's at that point when the practicality of such a toy has to be considered. With the amount of work that went into this Claptrap, this version of the game is harder to come by. It also came with a nice steel case.

9 Gears Of War 4 Ultimate Edition

via gearsofwar.com

People who loved Gears of War were sure to be excited by the Gears of War 4 Ultimate Edition. This version of the game came with a massive statue of the main character, a steel case, the season pass, and a few extra bonuses. However, it cost around $250 (and that price has gone up with newer sellers), which deterred a lot of people from getting this version. It was one of Microsoft's big exclusive titles, but this Ultimate Edition was almost not worth the effort.

8 Titanfall 2 Vanguard Collector's Edition

via amazon.com

Titanfall 2 did a lot of things to improve on its predecessor, but it also came with a pricey collector's edition just the same. The big draw of this edition was a life-sized replica of a Vanguard Pilot's helmet. While it's not something that anyone would ever wear, it did look pretty cool. It released for $250, but nowadays, its lack of copies have led the helmet to sell for more than that by itself. A full copy of the Vanguard Edition can easily surpass $400, which is probably more than what most people want to pay for that game.

7 Battlefield 1 Collector's Edition

via amazon.com

The Collector's Edition for Battlefield 1 is a bit of an oddity. It was quite expensive when it first released, priced around $200. However, time has proven unkind to Battlefield 1, especially for this Collector's Edition. Versions are going lower than $100. You get a big statue featuring the character on the box art, an exclusive steel case, some playing cards, and a digital code for the game. Perhaps the reputation of EA has caused many people to want to get rid of this collector's edition.

6 Destiny 2 Collector's Edition

via windowscentral.com

Destiny 2 was marketed as the proper version of the concept that Bungie presented all those years ago. While the game itself has proven less than satisfactory, it still came out with an expensive collector's edition. It came with a special messenger bag, an exclusive steel case, and the works. Brand new versions of this package can sell for around $300. For the most part, the price hasn't fluctuated all that much. Used versions can go down much lower than that too.
