Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is so gorgeous that you probably want to take things slow. An average playthrough can take you anywhere between 14 to 16 hours, as you make your way through the next-gen platformer, seeing all there is to see.

However, speedrunners are wasting no time seeing how quickly the game can be completed. Just weeks after release, the world record already sits at one hour, 32 minutes, and 11 seconds - and the competition shows no signs of slowing down.

This record is in the New Game + category, and was set by runner mobius. The run was only uploaded yesterday, and beat the previous record by just over a minute. Judging by the leaderboards, runs are being submitted all the time, so the race is truly on to beat Rift Apart as fast as humanly possible.

As with all games that have a speedrunning community, there are of course multiple categories. Mobius also holds the record in the 100% category, which involves beating the game on challenge mode while also collecting all gold bolts, Spybots, armour pieces, CraiggerBears, V10 weapons, Raritanium upgrades, as well as the Map-o-Matic, Box Breaker and 200 HP. No biggie, right? Somehow, mobius managed all of that in just six hours, 21 minutes, and 11 seconds.

Check one of the runs out for yourself and see if you have what it takes to speed through the critically acclaimed platformer.

For any aspiring runners, the NG+ and Any% categories simply involve beating the game in challenge mode as fast as you can. The timer stops as soon as the final boss is defeated - it doesn’t matter how you get to that endpoint, you just have to get there. That means runners can utilise skips, both intended or otherwise, and don’t have to worry about optional collectables.

Right across the board, Rift Apart players are pulling off impressive feats. As we recently reported, over half of the player base has already got the Platinum Trophy. If you’re one of the 55.12 percent (at the time of writing) and are looking for a new challenge, perhaps speedrunning is for you.
