The reviews are in for Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart and a lot of people are talking about one thing. Lombax fur.

The long-awaited arrival of Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is almost upon us. In two days' time, the game will land on PS5 and whoever wants to play it will be able to, providing they have a PS5 of course. Finding one is still easier said than done. A lucky few have had the chance to play Rift Apart already and the reviews indicate it's exactly what fans of the franchise want it to be.

More and more details about Rift Apart continue to emerge now that people are getting their first chance to play the game. Perhaps most notably of all is just how evident it is that the sequel could only ever be a PS5 exclusive. It takes advantage of next-gen features unlike anything to have come before it and some of the finer details are breathtaking.

The fur, for instance. Not something you would probably expect to see discussed at length after the release of, well, anything. However, the new footage and screenshots being shared this week have really shone a spotlight on the detail that has gone into Ratchet and Rivet's fur, whether that was the original poster's intention or not.

As you can see in the tweet above, the shot of Rivet, in particular, really shows off what next-gen lombax fur looks like. Close-ups of Ratchet also do it justice and those who have seen it are quite rightly very happy about the level of detail. Not just because it looks great, but it is also a sign that the same level of effort will have gone into the rest of the game.

Incredible fur or not, that does indeed seem to be the case. Best of all, now that the game is almost here, some of the developers who worked on Rift Apart are sharing their experiences in the studio. The game arrived on time in pristine condition without those who created it having to crunch at all. A lesson to other studios courtesy of Insomniac when it comes to the importance of setting realistic targets and release dates.
