Red Dead Redemption 2 was a game lauded by most for its impressive narrative that took place in what felt like a living, breathing, open-world gaming experience. The Van Der Linde gang was the point of focus and players got to meet and experience everything the members of the gang had to offer to one another.

Plenty of them were criminals and outlaws, but a handful were quite good with a gun when given the chance to fire them. It's time to rank the top 10 members of the Van Der Linde gang based on their gun skills

10 Hosea Matthews

Hosea Matthews from Red Dead Redemption 2

Here's the thing, does Hosea Matthews look like the type of guy that's going to shoot himself out of a predicament? Probably not. He's the type of smooth talker that's going to find a way out with his words and charm.

He ran alongside Dutch for many years so it's not outside the realm of possibility that he picked up some experience with a firearm throughout that time. You don't need to be a sharpshooter to be effective with a gun. In Hosea's case, you simply need to know when to shoot.

9 Sean MacGuire

When fans start to discuss their favorite and most memorable Van Der Linde members most of them forget about or consciously leave out Sean MacGuire. He's a feisty Irish outlaw who loses the gang's trust after he's captured but works non-stop to earn himself back into the good graces of Arthur and Dutch.

Sean's lackluster gun skill was elevated by his desperate need to feel accepted among the gang. Unfortunately, he died by way of a surprise attack via a sniper rifle, which meant he never had a chance to truly show off his firearm skills.

8 Micah Bell

Whether you like it or not, at the end of the day Micah Bell is a formidable enemy. This isn't based on the fact that he can outduel another man in a firefight, but rather that he's so vile that he's willing to do anything to survive.

He's the living embodiment of a cockroach and just like the household pests it's hard to get rid of him. Micah is willing to do the unthinkable and will resort to anything within his means to get his way. Pairing this kind of person with a firearm capable of killing someone in an instant makes him terrifying.

7 Javier Escuella

Javier Escuella was a Mexican revolutionary who built up a pretty notable reputation. He became notorious for fighting against what he often described as a corrupt system. It seems that Javier has been fighting for his life for a majority of it.

It's never really clear if he's skilled when it comes to using firearms or if his win at any cost mentality helps him overcome his deficiencies in actual skill and knowledge of the guns he uses. His loyalty and unrelenting nature to fight injustices make him a formidable foe, not necessarily his gun skills.

6 Bill Williamson

Considering Bill Williamson was a veteran as he served in the United States Army it's safe to assume he's pretty handy with a firearm. His gun of choice has always been the Winchester Repeater as well as both a custom Schofield Revolver and custom bolt action rifle.

Based on his personality he's the type of guy who likely feels most comfortable being a supportive fire in engagement as opposed to the leading man trying to set the tone. He never looked like the lone gunslinger, but in a pinch and the right headspace, Bill was a reliable shot.

5 Dutch Van Der Linde

Dutch Van Der Linde from Red Dead Redemption 2

People often overlook the fact that Dutch Van Der Linde has quite the shot. His charismatic and over-the-top personality often paints him as this cartoonish gang leader, but at the end of the day, he made his reputation as a smart and crafty criminal.

It doesn't help his case that both of his primary proteges have exceptional gun skills, but at the end of the day in typical Dutch fashion, he can take credit for it in some capacity. He may not need to always use his gun, but never take that as an indictment against his skill.

4 Charles Smith

Like in most aspects of the Van Der Linde gang, Charles Smith is almost always an afterthought despite being one of the most well-rounded and versatile members of the group.

He helps Arthur along his journey of redemption numerous times and is often seen efficiently eliminating his enemies with a shotgun. He'll never be the flashiest or heroic shooter, but you know at the end of the day he'll get the job done. He can also shoot a bow with the best of them which helps if or when you run out of ammunition.

3 Sadie Adler

It's amazing how a woman who was once a housewife can quickly turn into one of the fiercest bounty hunters in all of the countryside. After she became widowed it seemed that her path of vengeance started with an understanding and appreciation for firearms.

She likely understood what being good with one meant in terms of being able to right the wrongs of the world and deliver her definition of justice. Her character evolution throughout the game is only rivaled by her growth as a gunslinger.

2 John Marston

John Marston comes in at a close second-place finish only behind his best friend and mentor Arthur Morgan when it comes to gun skill among the members of the Van Der Linde gang. He's always been good with pistols and his skill has a chance to shine in the first game where he's the protagonist of the story.

He even has an ability that allows him to pinpoint the part of an enemy's body so he can fire on his target in rapid succession. John can be a little chaotic at times which dampers his overall effectiveness.

1 Arthur Morgan

In Red Dead Redemption 2 you'll often get the best nuggets of information from the random dialogue you'll hear when characters are engaged in random conversations. Throughout the entirety of the game, one thing you'll hear uttered several times is how Arthur Morgan has the best shot in the entire Van Der Linde gang.

This shouldn't come as a surprise as he's been firing guns his entire life and unlike John or Dutch, Arthur has a very reserved and level-headed approach to things. It would make sense that he's worked on his gun skills over the years.
