The year 2020 is upon us, and we have been saving up our hard-earned money to buy every upcoming game possible. Among the numerous enticing 2020 releases is one that seems to stand out. Elden Ring, a game from the creators of Dark Souls, is possibly the most anticipated game of the year.

We saw the curious E3 2019 cinematic trailer for Elden Ring, but still so little is known about the game. What we do know, however, is enough to raise enthusiasm about this RPG. By the end of this list, you'll know why Elden Ring is so appealing. These are 10 reasons to be excited for Elden Ring.

10 George R.R. Martin Is Part Of The Project

The author of Game of Thrones is doing a collaboration with Hidetaka Miyazaki on Elden Ring. Not only is George R.R. Martin a part of Elden Ring, but reports are suggesting he's a huge part of the game.

Hidetaka Miyazaki stated in an interview, "I suppose the start of this collaboration came from the fact that I myself am a huge fan of Mr. Martin's work." Miyazaki is not alone since many of us are massive Game of Thrones fans. Particularly, Miyazaki loved the novel "A Song of Ice and Fire."

9 The Developer Of Dark Souls And Bloodborne Is Working On Elden Ring

From Software, one of the hottest names in the gaming industry, is working on a new game called Elden Ring. No, it's not a working title, and we are already intrigued by what this ring is about. The game is going to be open-world, perhaps more so than the Dark Souls games and Bloodborne.

As long as From Software brings unforgiving gameplay reminiscent of the Soulsborne games, it's going to be a mega-success with fans of the series and newcomers alike.

8 It's Coming In 2020

A rumor suggests that Elden Ring is going to release in 2020. We're already anticipating hot game launches for the year 2020. We're going to see releases such as Dying Light 2, Marvel's Avengers, Cyberpunk 2077, Rainbow Six Quarantine, and Halo Infinite.

The rumor could be substantiated given that it came from someone who revealed quite a few other details about the game. Reddit user ExHanzo may have revealed specific gameplay mechanics that only an insider could know. We'll have to wait and see if there is any validity to his claims.

7 It's Been In The Development Phase Since 2017

We know that Elden Ring has been in development since early 2017, shortly after Dark Souls 3's final DLC release. Modern video games usually take about one to three years to develop.

Based on the time that has passed, Elden Ring's development phase could be coming to an end. In fact, it's been in development longer than most video games. Elden Ring should have a considerable amount of content for players to enjoy—especially since it's an open-world game.

6 It's Going To Be "Ripe For Exploration"

Elden Ring could be more of an open-world game than Dark Souls, which has taken on more linear progression in recent games. Hopefully, this new game gets the open-world blend right. According to Miyazaki, Elden Ring will be "ripe for exploration."

The fact that Elden Ring will be an open-world game could be good or bad. Open-world games with lots of enemies and story elements are good, but big open spaces and tedious traveling is bad. With great minds like Miyazaki leading the project, it should be the former rather than the latter.

5 It's An Action Role-Playing Game With A Bigger Emphasis On Role-Playing

We can't get enough of RPGs that are less action-oriented games. Hidetaka Miyazaki's said Elden Ring is "a new dark fantasy action RPG full of things that we weren't able to do in the Dark Souls series."

Character customization is going to be a big part of Elden Ring. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice was an action-adventure game, but now, From Software is heading back in the role-playing direction with possibly more customization than ever before.

4 It's Going To Feature Colossal Boss Fights

The boss fights of the Soulsborne games are like puzzles waiting to be solved. Learning and adjusting to the movements of a boss requires extraordinary finesse and reaction time. Take the Great Grey Wolf Sid, for example.

Appearing in Dark Souls, he wields a sword in his mouth (not to be confused with Zacian from Pokémon Sword). The length of his reach and the timing of his attacks must be carefully studied to beat him. Elden Ring will contain colossal boss fights like the Great Grey Wolf Sif.

3 The Game Revolves Around A Ring

In the Elden Ring trailer, one scene shows something golden being shattered. It's hard to make out what it is, but it could be a ring. As the title mentions, Elden Ring will be based around a ring. What power could this ring possess? Will the protagonist or the villain wield it?

This isn't the first epic fantasy adventure story based on a ring. We are, of course, referring to The Lord of the Rings. Although Elden Ring will be different than The Lord of the Rings, similarities give us pause.

2 The Trailer Looks Insane

It's not recommended to form an opinion based on a game's cinematic trailer. Cinematic trailers are not representative of the graphics of a game, and they can mislead gamers. The Elden Ring's E3 announcement trailer showcased the themes of the game and showed little else.

Still, we can't help but be enthused by Elden Ring because we love the grittiness. We are familiar with FromSoftware's games, which leads us to believe Elden Ring shouldn't be any different.

1 We Know So Little About The Game

FromSoftware has released very little information about Elden Ring. We've seen games that were promoted a ton and were huge letdowns. Examples of games that received a great deal of promotion but were letdowns are SimCity, No Man's Sky, Lair, and Fallout 76.

On the other hand, a game like Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order had a review embargo till the midnight of release. It ended up being a massive success. No news is sometimes good news, and we couldn't be more keen to play Elden Ring.
