Critters of all sizes roam the American West of Red Dead Redemption 2, many of which are sought after to complete Hunting Tasks or Red Dead Online’s Daily Challenges. Beavers are among the most widely hunted of these creatures due to their valuable pelts and the possibility of encountering a Legendary variant.
If you’re trying to track down these natural lumberjacks, it’s best to start your search along the riverbanks in West Elizabeth, where beavers are most abundant. Though you can find them hard at work in certain locations in Ambardino, New Hanover, and Lemoyne as well. Remember to bring a Varmint Rifle along in order to preserve these large rodents’ ‘perfect hides.’

Beaver Locations
West Elizabeth
Starting in West Elizabeth, Beavers inhabit several spots along both the upper and lower Montana Rivers, as well as along the banks of Owanjila and the Aurora Basin.
- Beavers often spawn along the Western shore of Owanjila.
- Southeast from Owanjila, more beavers reside where the Upper Montana River divides to create a couple of small islands.
- Continuing down the Upper Montana River, you can scout a few more beaver locations along the stretch that makes up the Northern border of the Great Plains, especially directly north of Beecher's Hope.
- Directly east of the Aurora Basin, another couple of beavers have been spotted near the fork in the road.
- Beavers making their dams along the Lower Montana River seem to gravitate towards the south of Bear Claw Camp, though it doesn't hurt to explore up and downstream a little way.
New Hanover
While New Hanover only has one key beaver hunting location west of the Van Hoorn Trading Post, it is the only location known to spawn a three-star Legendary Beaver. Your best bet in nabbing this legendary critter is to head to the pool west of Van Hoorn and scout around the dam near the lodge there.
Ambardino
There is a sole location in Ambardino where beavers are also known to spawn, along the northern tip of Lake Isabella and upriver before it branches off into Deadboot Creek and Spider Gorge.
Lemoyne
The final general beaver location can be found on the southern tip of Lemoyne amidst the network of small streams coming off of the Lannahechee River.
Legendary Moon Beaver Location
This striking beaver has fur as white as a full moon and can be sighted along with the common population of beavers that build dams along the Kamassa River.
As you've noticed, they're not always hanging about. They are primarily active during dawn and dusk hours, typically 6:00 to 9:00, but they are partial to rainy weather, so it's best to check during a storm.
Legendary Night Beaver Location
The Legendary Night Beaver is exclusive to Harriet Davenport's Legendary Animal Sighting missions and dons a luxurious black coat that is widely sought by poachers. You'll have to reach rank five in The Naturalist Role before being able to take on the mission.
Legendary Zizi Beaver Location
The Zizi beaver makes its dams on the opposite side of the Owanjila from the common population. It stands out to hunters for its trendy blonde coat. Weather doesn't phase this beaver at all, but they do prefer to go about their business in the dawn and dusk hours.
